Default vf39 on a stock 2.5?

Is the vf39 a good choice for a 06 wrx? Of course I need injectors and a tune, bust is there better turbo option? I'm not looking for crazy power just something respectable

Turbo choice depends on specific goals and power curves associated with your application. The vf turbos will make decent torque and power, but can't hold boost to redline. 300ish whp is about it on pump gas. They spool by about 3k rpm.

Beyond that look to a different turbo. You should really spell out your specific goals and plans if you want help in choosing a turbo. A generic "is this a good turbo" is impossible to answer.

No as I would recommend a Garrett GT6041 which would explode either your motor or transmission within 4 seconds. You buy turbos based on WHP goal, not "stomp some v8 egos". If you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground about turbos (methinks you don't), then you need to read fully about 16 times: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1218459 then follow this up with a C A L L to your tuner to narrow down your 3-5 choices upon reading that post and use his judgement to come up with one candidate. Then you two can plot supporting mods and broker a timeline for purchase-->installation-->tuning.

A vf turbo can get you beating some 90s v8s and a few early 2000s, but no new ones.

The Dom 1.5xtr is a very good DD turbo. That's what I have been running on my 2010 STI. It carries full boost all the way to redline in every gear. A little pricey but I don't know what your price range is. For power I am at 350whp @ 18lbs and 370whp @ 21 on E85. This is also with high elevation of Colorado. just throwing a suggestion out there.

Definitely. And if you do meth you could get up to about 340whp. That and good driving could help you beat all of the poorly driven v8s as long as you keep the race short. Do it. If it isn't enough find a new turbo. It's a popular upgrade for a reason. I have a vf30. And while it's too small for my goals it's just fine for now.

If those are corrected numbers your elevation is moot.

How much is that? I'm a college kid so my budget isn't too high, but I make good money so its not low either, I'm probably gonna get a used one just looking for something that will provide good power

Just did a vf 39 on my 06 xt. Its a blast to drive and I know I'm not going to destroy my drivetrain or anything else.

Vf39 or the turbo off the newer stis vf4?. Either way 300 whp will be plenty enough for you and is a "budget" turbo. You could beat your average v8 from a dig.

Honestly if you don't know the difference you really should read unabombers FAQ.

That said I haven't had this car on a Dyno. So I can't tell you real numbers. On the base/low boost tune it's on now it feels like it's only 275/310. And trapping 105-106 is a safe bet, sea level cool weather is awesome. But these are completely made up. Pretty confident in the traps though. I have a good 1/4 mile butt calibration.

You don't NEED larger injectors, yours are actually slightly larger then 04-05 injectors IIRC

They're actually the same size as the STi. STi doesnt need injectors for stage 2, so an 06-07 wrx wouldnt either.

Yeah there are a couple places but I don't see how e85 would be better than 91 lol

You're kidding right? 91 is garbage, you need to be running at least 93 octane even on a stock wrx or sti. And e85 is basically street legal race gas for cheap money.
