No, you follow the DS1 instructions (supply your own wires) OR buy an IAP harness.

so what do you guys do for ewg for these? i dont want to spend a ton on a TS header. i figured just take off the heat shield and weld on a flange for ewg. not sure if there will even be enough room with the halfshaft and downpipe right there. also its it manditory to run two ewg with TS?
Next question is were do you guys source new ej207 timing belt kits with water pump and tensioner and pulleys? import image couldnt help me out. |

I've been thinking about doing the dual twinscroll wastegates for a while just because I haven't seen it done on the jdm setup. Might be able to get two of these in there http://www.full-race.com/store/waste...wastegate.html but it would be a really tight fit if it would even work.

Do it! Im pretty sure the 38mm MVS Tials are what Goodspeed put on their last twinscroll rotated kits because of the smaller footprint than the older style 38mm ewg. But if you stick with the stock location twinscroll turbo, that will be super tight to get them in the uppipe area. |

It would be 1.5 scroll and mix once gate is opened. Me thinks it would be a colossal waste of time. The turbo itself is to small for any real power.

FYI, im not sure what water pump comes on the V8 motors, but my V7 came with the same small impeller pump as the usdm wrx. The 04 STi pump has bigger impeller and flows more for cooling. |

Yes and also. Get all new Idlers for the timing belt Old JDM motors had single bearing Idlers. All the new ones are double bearing idlers. Much better and no failures to date.

It'll be fine. I never seen a Gates timing belt fail on its own. Most timing belts fail due to seized pullys or interference by a bent or poor adjusted guide ready to shred it to bits. Even all the catalogs i've seen including the black Gates belts are designated for 02-11 wrx and sti.

I'd change it asap if you see signs of it failing. And check your idlers and everything else. $100 belt or $4000 motor.... hmmmm. I have the same belt. I haven't removed my timing belt cover since I installed the engine. I have no reason to believe it's going to fail since I replaced the idlers and water pump during the installation. Britian has a pretty sweet dual ewg setup on his VF36 powered EJ207 that he stuck into his porsche. It's a completely custom setup. For someone that is trying to get as responsive a setup as they can possibly get, that might be the way to go. I would like to know what the gains are before I become invested. If there are none, then you just spent a lot of time and money on a fruitless experiment. |

there was gains to be had when i did a ewg on the td04. spool prob increased by another 200rpms. thats with the addition of headers which on the two liter slow spool down a bit. it also opens up the top end so the engine can breath out the excess exhaust. at 7k rpms im sure there is enough exh gas to spin the turbo. might as well get it out before the turbo. plus it will prob elongate the life of the turbo since the heat wont have to go through the turbo either and thus heating the oil less and keeping the bearings cooler.
what im wondering is if you could just y pipe the two up pipes to a single ewg... part of me is saying dumb idea but then again if its at a 90* off the pipes then one would think it wouldnt interfer with flow that much. maybe create a bit of turbulence. |

yeah it would either need to be a y pipe so it would be nearly impossible for the exh gas to flow back into the other up pipe or dual ewg which will be a tight fit.

So your goal when designing exhaust is to keep the pressure fairly constant so the last exhalation pulls the next along. Its the mistake N/A cars make when they make their exhaust too big, they loose the scavenge and can actually loose HP. Where would you vent it tho? I always assumed you would just end up sucking on exhaust all day long. |

i had a ewg on my td04 setup before i got into an accident and had to scrap the car and save the drivetrain. i had both holes in the firewall open for various sensors and wideband. i never smelt the ewg gases. the dump tube just puts it toward the ground. i would put it like 5 inches below the turbo but high enough so it doesnt interfer with the halfshaft.
as far as the pressure consistent do you mean the backpressure from the turbo? there will always be a certain amount of pressure when in boost because there needs to be that energy to spin the turbine. the ewg will just get rid of the extra pressure that isn't needed. |

Engine arrived today!
Looks good except for a few small issues (intercooler has hole in it.) The numbers on the timing cover say..EJ207DW5CR-130... I see writing that says v9. Can someone verify? Thanks! |

So, I decided to look into what exactly the situation is with the fuel in Japan.
I did some research around the Shell site, for Japan. The Japan site link is here http://www.showa-shell.co.jp/product...a/qa.html#qu01 What it translates to, easily done with Bing is that there are two numbers: The premium fuel is 96 octane number in JIS standard. I went and found a copy of the JIS standard which indicated that the octane is "research method", which is RON. Wikipedia also indicates RON for Japan, so I consider this confirmed from 2 independent sources. I wanted to use facts only, due to some things that misc anonymous people stated in various postings (not Subaru forums) that google seemed to bring up. Once I saw that, I was able to go the Subaru of Japan site and find that the fuel currently recommended for the Sti in Japan is Premium fuel. http://www.subaru.jp/wrxsti/5dr/spec/spec_specc.html I was able to find a table in wikipedia that places 98 RON (Japan rating)between 93 and 94 AKI (US rating). 96 Octane in Japan would be rather close to 93 Octane in US. I don't have a spec for the MON number for the fuel, so I can't use the formula, but all fuels shown in the Wikipedia table, with a RON under 98 are below US 94 octane. There is some information on the web that there is a third fuel available "race", with a RON octane number over 100, which could mean 94 or more US AKI octane number. But Subaru is not calling currently for race grade fuel. They are calling for premium fuel. Last edited by Vlad; 01-20-2012 at 11:13 PM. |
