That should be around what you're looking for, about as affordable as possible.
A tuner should be able to help you sort out what will work best for you.
This^^ with injectors and an E85 map will get you there for 5-6K. But you will want to upgrade the suspension while you are at it given your power goals.

Honestly if I had known subarus were so expensive to mod to make decent power.

I wouldn't have bought my Sti..

There are dozens of other cars that can make 400whp with less than 4k dollars. AND be more reliable than our subarus.

But I love my Sti.. So I don't care

Heres a list that I made 405whp/410wtq 2.5L e85
FP green 2.4 8cm^2 non hta
Gimmick inlet
Perrin big maf w/spec filter
Grimmspeed up pipe w/tial 44mm wastegate
Tial 50mm bov
P&l turbo back
Grimmspeed ebcs
1200cc injectors
Walbro 255
Exedy stage 2 clutch 3 puck
Mahle pistons, eagle rods.
Cobb accessport.

Other than what I call the god motor (EJ22T, I just LOVE that block)

And I was referring to the V7 and earlier.

Even the V8 has more differences so them going to hyperufecal pistons (which are stronger than the regular cast that were in 02-05 WRX) (although realistically speaking, the difference between them is small and hypercrap pistons are still garbage) doesnt make it the same motor.

Yup. It took me 3 Subies and somewhere around $175k to figure out that if you want power cheap and reliable you buy a used Mustang and strap a supercharger to it.

I still havent strapped a supercharger to mine, but I have that 400hp all day long and it will NEVER break. And I can do it on 87 octane. And mother of god the way my car sounds is amazing.

I mean I know dedicated race cars over that. But for daily drivers, 60 and 100k have been the most I have seen.

That said, if you told me you had 120k+ into your daily subie I wouldn't have a tough time believing it. Its SCARY easy to put that sort of money into these cars especially if you count mods you have changed 2-3 times, which most of us with a lot of money into the cars have done.

I like the people who think 10k in mods is huge money. Most of them, if you get them to sit down with a calculator, end up like when they figure out they broke 10k LONG ago.

Hell man, if you were to say off the top of your head what you have invested, I bet if you sat down with a calculator, you are over that number.

My mustang has what I consider basic bolt ons. give me a minute to come up with a round about number what I have into it...

*edit*
I don't have time to figure it all out but its somewhere around 6k. For HP I am up to either do a bottle or forced induction. Im not doing either, just gonna pay it off then sell it and buy a GT500. 3 mods on it for 1100 bucks gets you 500+whp reliably forever. Ill have maybe 30k total invested to run high 10s on slicks.

Oh I was directing that at the op not you. I know some people blow me out of the water (like you) but I'm somewhere around $25k invested not including the $$ from buying the car itself.

And yes that's being generous just like you say =D

You think 25k?

Guys who say 25k are classically the ones with the biggest shock when they do the math.
(that's why I because that particular number seems to have this pattern)

10k usually means 12-15k

50k usually means 55-60k

25k almost never means less than 40k.

Go do the math I bet its minimum 30k. Make sure you count any sets of wheels/tires unless you replaced the tires due to them being too worn out. Any little trim pieces, all of it. That stuff adds up FAST.

I'm around $35,000 not including the car (once my motor is all said and done). Roughly $10,000 in audio and $20,000 in performance. The other $5,000 or so is tunes, labor, and such...yeah, Subaru's are expensive.

I was lucky enough to work in a car audio shop. I don't even want to think about what the retail value of my stereo was. I got it all cheap and did all the labor myself. I know that just in sound deadening I had like 30 hours invested, and at a standard $75 an hour thats $2250 JUST in labor for the sound deadening.

I did fiberglass work on the door panels, about $1100 worth

Then about 10 hours in misc labor installing it all, so another 750 bucks.

Probably $300 in misc materials, 500 in wiring and the extra battery

And we haven't even gotten to the gear itself

But for all that money worth of time and labor, I probably ACTUALLY spent about $400 bucks.

Yeah it was probably 12k or so worth of stereo. But OMG how it sounded. It was amazing. Even at ear shattering volumes, it was crystal clear. My goal was live concert level volume, with perfect clarity. And I had it.

It could boom too. 3 12s will do that. The bigger thing was that I could make those 3 12s dissapear into the sound when listening to light jazz and such.

Someone posted a while back, "I have 20k and I want 500hp"

I told him a simple formula

Find a 50-70k mile old
2005 Mustang GT for around 15k
Buy a centrifugal supercharger kit for 3500
Buy a tune and a larger pulley for another couple hundred

There you go. 500hp (crank hp) reliably forever. Good luck making it hook up if you run out that 20k before you buy tires

Haha true true.

the last time I did hard number crunching I was already over 20k. And that was well over a year ago.

That rough 25k number is only including parts currently on the car....I've spent at least another 10k in stuff but have since sold/replaced said parts. This would include old coil overs and wheels and my entire 16g setup. So there's an easy 35k spent ROUGH estimate. I know I've recouped something like $7500 or more in sold parts.

I did everything myself so no labor included in my estimated $$. Im not including tools either. Or fluids/tires/ bearings that I've replaced

I know...I kinda miss mine, I'm down to just my 4 door speakers, amp, and head unit now. I took the rest out to shed a little weight.

You had 3 12's? Jeebus...I stuck with just one...

You didn't have very good 10s.

Or a bad box, or a bad amp. In any case, if 2 6X9s sounds like 2 10s, there is a problem with those 10s.

I had 3 12s because it was the only way to get the sound pressure out of them while retaining a smallish sealed chamber for each. It was go ported and sloppy, or add another speaker and retain the tight impact and musicality, so I added another speaker.

But they could boom too
That was like 3/4 volume.

The video thumbnail is the box in question.

I listen to metal. Having massive subs is completely unnecessary.

It doesn't work for everyone but its perfect for me

See you REALLY need to hear a good system.

A pair of GOOD 12s, with a big dose of power, crossed over properly and in a sealed box, make metal INCREDIBLY better. Seriously.

If anything metal needs MORE cone area than other types of music (other than rap)
