Ira versus Wakefield Service, North Shore MA
Have a couple of warranty/TSB issues I need taken care of on my 2017 Forester, and looking for any latest service dept. reviews from the NASIOC crowd. Had a poor service experience at Exeter earlier this year when they did an airbag recall on my older Subaru, so I'm leaning towards Ira or Wakefield Subaru.
Any recent reviews good or bad? Thanks! -B

I've always had a good experience at Wakefield with my BRZ and WRX for warranty work, but the most extensive work was done in Braintree for a fuel pump for the BRZ. If they didn't destroy my paint in a wash , give me an attitude, and made me contact the owner of the chain to go through hoops for two months to get it fixed, I'd recommend them. Wakefield was always relatively quick and are nice enough to give loaners if needed. They also did the recall on my turbo. I whole heartedly recommend them.
I've only had oil changes at Ira, but strangely enough, they washed my wife's new Impreza and they actually did a good job and didn't scratch up the paint. |

Have never been to Ira, so can't say anything good/bad about them. I have always had good experiences with Wakefield. Used them for 6+ years with my Legacy GT and never had any negative encounters. I'm sure it helps when you talk to them and make it clear you know what you're talking about, but I would definitely recommend them.

I have also had negative experiences at Exeter, where I purchased my car.
AVOID Exeter at all costs if you can! I have never seen so much incompetence in one place. The first oil change my brand new car ever had they left a wrench in my engine bay and allowed a slow oil leak from the oil drain plug (never put the gasket back on). After having to get my car towed so I didn't destroy my engine, I had them perform another oil change only to realize they left the oil cap off following the oil change, allowing it to spill all over my engine bay. Sorry for the detour, just wanted to save others from potential bad experiences there as well. Wakefield has been the only dealership I've worked with since abandoning Exeter. They are much more attentive, have some very good techs with lots of experience, and the service manager there has been very helpful. They are not perfect, I've had some small issues- but nothing like what I've experienced in Exeter. |

Thanks for the replies folks, Subaru of Wakefield it is.
Not sure what happened to Exeter; they were decent in the past, wondering if their expansion has brought a lowering of standards while chasing volume. |

I know a couple of people who work at Wakefield. Almost bought a Crosstrek from them before getting my WRX. I'm also partial to them since I work 2 minutes from them, too lol

Car is at Wakefield. Did have to go back today since a tech couldn't reproduce one of the issues (car pops out of gear going downhill in first). Was able to reproduce the issue, and am going back next Monday for them to dig into the transmission. Here's to hoping it is a shifter cable and not syncros. And if it is syncros, they have a good transmission person on staff.

Beanboy, I got your PM and responded. Fingers crossed it's not syncros. Those are a bitch on any car.

Thanks for the PM coraldayton. I have a hunch it is probably syncros. Search results have 1/3 shifter cable adjustment/replacement versus 2/3 multiple syncros replaced to fix the issue. If the trans case is cracked, I just hope everything goes back together okay and I'm not at the dealer again in a month with a different issue.

Just wanted to update the thread. First-round of work was completed (TSB on tune). Did have to confirm another issue the following day, and they didn't have the time to do the work that week so had to come back.
Rescheduled for 10/30 drop-off, and car is still there. Parts were 3-5 days away with 1-2 day install time. Have a loaner (not a full tank however) and they did call to update me on status last week. Going to call them today for an update. So far decent service department for those looking, thanks again for the recommendations. Last edited by Beanboy; 11-08-2017 at 11:00 AM. |

Did the transmission issue turn out to be the synchros or the cable?

I can only speak for Ira’s Collision department. They suck. Completely left out the snorkel on my gf’s car and couldn’t attach some body clips because it wasn’t aligned right
