Default Dodge Demon

Haven't seen this posted yet. New MX-5 competitor from Dodge:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/12/d...but-in-geneva/

IMHO kinda ugly, and according to the report is heavier than the MX-5. But, if it drives well...

Congrats to Dodge and the boys at DaimlerChrysler for keeping the Dodge Demon Concept completely under wraps until now. As of 12:01AM on 2/12, however, the embargo has lifted and we're allowed to tell you about this Dodge-branded MX-5 killa destined to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. It's no accident that we've invoked the Mazda MX-5 so quickly as a comparison for the Demon Concept, as Dodge freely admits the Japanese roadster was its benchmark when designing the car. The Demon is a smidge shorter than the MX-5, though a bit wider, taller and heavier. Unlike the concept's shown by DaimlerChrysler so far this autoshow season like the Chrysler Nassau and Jeep Trailhawk, the Demon Concept has been built from the ground up and uses no existing platform. It does, however, use one of DCX's existing engines - the 2.4L four-cylinder World Engine that sends 172 horsepower and 165 ft-lbs. of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Dodge officials tell us a number of engines could be used in the Demon, including the 1.8 or 2.0L World Engine. A 300-hp motor, probably the one that powers the Caliber SRT-4, was also spoken of when we were initially introduced to the Demon by DCX.

Looks pretty good, despite the cross grill dominating the front.

Wow.. way to steal the Z4's styling cues (sidecut & 'hips')

I don't believe the original Dodge Demon was ever a convertable... hmmmm.

I like it a lot. They need to make this.

One thing that I've noticed is that the vast majority of people tend to view cars in this class such as the MX-5, Solstice, S2k, etc. as "chick cars". One of the cool things about this car is that it's styling actually looks genuinely pissed off. Between that and the name, I think this car could fight that mentality. Especially with a SRT-4 version.

300hp Mini-Viper FTW. Half the Viper's size, half the Viper's horsepower. Would be very sweet.

Yes, very much so. More angular in the rear, though.

Don't like the grill and the entire rear of the car. But it shows some promise.

While I like it, how many products can the cheap & small convertable market hold? it went from the Miata to the Miata, Solstice & Sky, and this. Hopefully the market grows to handle the new product instead of dividing up Miata sales. I don't think this market is really growing, however.

Mini Viper is exactly what I was thinking too. The headlights and other body cues look like shrunk down and less rounded Viper pieces.

Now that is the absolute worst application of the already ass-ugly crosshair grille. Nice TT rip-off on the rear. How changed is this thig from the Razor concept, anyway?

....and why didn't they call it the Duster?

Because Plymouth made the Duster.

I don't like the points in the fender arcs.

Rear fenders are weird, its like they're trying not to give it a trunk. I wonder about the size of the market for this car and also what platform they would use for it.

I wanna like it... really, I do, but it's just not doing it for me. The concept is great and all, but the execution leaves me wanting the Razor more.

I like that a bunch of new roadsters are coming out. But, I still can't see myself in a Dodge.

Good thing there's another roadster out for me to try, otherwise I'll just have to give up and get a Miata like everyone else.
