Well, uninstalled accessport. Downloaded newest ecuflash and plugged in open port 2.0 and it recognized it but once I go to read a screen pops up that I guess is supposed to show year make and model and ecu type etc but there's no option to click read. Ugh this is so frustrating. Test connectors were connected.

I've been using the VAGCOM cable for months now.
I just download the latest RomRaider, latest "AlphaBid" drivers, and all of the respective car / ecu / logger definitions from RomRaider's site. It's kind of tricky to get that all going, but it works for logging. Provided that this isn't a different VagCom cable, that's what works for me. |

Also, if it is the AlphaBid type of cable, you don't need open port.

If nothing showed up in that window, I'd put money on you not having the definition files setup right.

That's what I was thinkin, but wouldn't the updated version 1.44 have the updated definitions? I checked the metadata file and the subaru file contains all defs that I would need. I believe...

Either Windows 7 or XP should work equally well.
With the OpenPort 2.0 connected to just your laptop and not the OBD2 port, do you see the 3 LEDs on the OpenPort cycle regularly through the 3 colors? If not, and I suspect this might be the case since you're seeing 'no vehicle interface', then I would first try a different USB cable. It's just a standard mini USB cable like you'd use for most digital cameras, some phones, some GPS, etc. If the cable is definitely okay but you still see 'no vehicle interface' and the lights aren't cycling, then take a look at the USB carefully. If you look at it from underneath you'll see a seem that if it's spread apart it might mean that the unit has taken a hard hit and the USB connector is deformed. Did you buy this OpenPort 2.0 new? |

I see. I guess I was confused because you posted:
"Well, uninstalled accessport. Downloaded newest ecuflash and plugged in open port 2.0 and it recognized it but..." How many more hours are you going to spend trying to get this unsupported hardware working with software it wasn't intended to work with? Or maybe another way to phrase this is, how much is your time worth? ("I searched 5 hours last night.") Good luck with your quest to save a few bucks and to avoid supporting the work of those who spend time to make the software you're trying to use. |

You're 'obviously' short on more than funds if you're in a jam because you can't afford $169 to tune your ~$12000+ car. Maybe if you add more exclamation marks someone else will spend more time to help with your project. Here's a free bump:

Will it work with another OS? I have ubuntu (romraider not yet installed), and a 32-bit windows xp machine as well, though I couldnt get this one to connect either.
I press read right after turning on the ignition, no dice. |

Tactrix is considering Android development when it's supported by an upcoming release of Qt, the C++ framework used to make EcuFlash. Mac OS support is also something we've considered but we're receiving fewer and fewer requests for it. Occasionally we get requests for Linux but it's pretty infrequent. We keep track of these types of requests so it's worth emailing support at tactrix dot com if you need support on a different OS. We're a two person company so we can't complete every, or even most, requests, but we keep track and if demand is there we'll at least spend some time looking in to feasibility of the request.
Why do we do we spend timing working on OS issues? We spend time on OS issues (upcoming release has improved install for Windows Vista), new features, and new vehicle support (two addition ECUs in the works now), because supporting and creating a better product for the community is the focus of our company. Our daily work is funded by the sales of the OpenPort. We're also getting ready to hire another customer support person and eventually we'd like to add a third full time developer. You should consider purchasing an OpenPort because it's assembled in both Washington and California, not overseas, so sales supports physical labor in two US states and two companies. Your purchase supports EcuFlash development. You receive lifetime support with our hardware & software, even if you aren't the original owner. You support the growing of a small business that works to make tools of value to this community. We think those facts make us pretty unique in this space and good reasons to consider purchasing our hardware to support US production and development of an affordable product. -Mike |
