i say hook it up to your maplights.
I dont know how, but i think it'd be the most badass. keep your maplights in "door" mode, so when you unlock your car and open the door your whole car will be a ****ing light party (dome & all footwells). Will automatically shut off when you close the door. I dont know how to hook it up, but if somebody can do a writeup, i'd be damn happy. |

Thanks for this thread. I just ordered the red kit and the red cubbyhole light and I'm looking forward to an easy install. I love the warm red glow of the instrumentation on the '09 WRX and hope this won't be overkill!

Here are a couple of pics after my install. It took me about an hour (I was stubborn and did not remove the radio) because it was a pain in my a** to run the wires. Otherwise the install was no problem. These were kind of a "just for the hell of it purchase," but I like it.

Very nice HelperMonkey!
I'll try to get some pics up of my reds when they get in and installed. Anyone else notice how dim the cubbyhole light is? I'm sure Subaru wanted it subtle, but right now it's barely noticeable even at night. |

One other comment, the blue lights light up the footwell very well, but I do not notice them when I am driving (glare on any windows). This was very important to me since they turn on with your headlights. |

I just ordered the kit, should have it by the weekend so I can put it in. Since I've got an Impreza it should be easier, but I have no experience with any of this type of stuff- I'll let everyone know if I encounter any issues.
It doesn't seem too hard though. |

I just realized why the standard cubbyhole LED seems so dim - because when it's empty, it's shining onto a matte black surface. Yesterday night I had my white Fastrak transponder in the cubby and the LED illuminated it just fine, the blue is very visible when reflecting off a lighter surface. Much brighter and it may have been distracting.
Still waiting for my red footwell kit, should be in sometime this week. |

I have a red set in my car. I like it, but I think I'm going to replace the cubby light with a red one.
Anyway, for those thinking that the center light in the cubby is dim, I think there is a rubber filter over the LED which can be removed to make it brighter. |

I WIRED MINE 3 WAYS SO I CAN CONTROL IT. RIGHT TO THE STEERING LIGHT CONTROLS. WHEN THE PARKING LIGHTS ARE ON THE L.E.D's COME ON SAME WITH LOW BEAMS, IN THE OFF POSITION THEY ARE OFF. NOW I PUT A LIL SWITCH IN MY GLOVE BOX SO I CAN KILL THE HOLE SYSTEM CUZ THEY ARE ILEAGLE IN MY AREA. AND THE 3RD WAY IS UP TO THE DOME LIGHT BUT I DONT USE IT CUZ ITS OFF WHEN IM DRIVING. I FOUND THE EASIES WAY IS TO HOOK THEM UP TO THE MOOD LIGHT IN THE POCKET EASY TO DO HARD TO GET UR HANDS IN THERE
