Default You got the "200" STI 6speed swap lists now, how do you install?

Ok I have searched for an entire weekend to see if there were any STi 6spd tranny swap installs w/pics but all I found were swap lists to aquire a STi 6spd tranny. Does anyone have a link to an install post or thread?

You know how to do a clutch on a 5MT? Do that but put the 6MT in it's place.

If you have to ask, you can't do it.

Ah MasterKwan I would hope even a person of your stature should not be so negative!!!
I only asked so that I'm sure that it is done correctly. I also Don't like continuous posting without knowing what to look for.

P.S. Oh and since you posted with "MasterKwan:If you have to ask, you can't do it". instead of a answer to my question, apparently you can't do it either!!!

I guess. I've done it twice now and swapped the entire STI drivetrain over from a wrecked 05 STI to my 03. I didn't have to ask how to do that either. I grabbed a copy of the shop manual and actually read the procedure subaru described, then did it my own way. I didn't have any help with the project. I think I had my kid hold the brakes down when I was trying to mesh the transmission input shaft with the clutch but, that's about it.

If you must know, I built a sled with a cable and plywood. Then dropped (not literally, "hoisted") the drivetrain down onto the sled, engine cradle, tranny and all (jack under the tailshaft) and then used a "come-along" to drag the sled out from under the chassis. Then just switched over every wiring harness, fuel tank and the rest of the parts I wanted. When I was done, I chopped the wreck up with a "sawzall" and took the parts to the dump. Took a couple truck loads.

The satisfaction of a job well done that you do all by yourself is worth the hassle.

So, shop manual, a little reading and you'll know how to do it too. I'm giving you some mild crap because you don't come across as...mechanically inclined. It's just the impression your post gives even if it is wrong.

Do you think you have the place, the parts and the skills to swap a 5 speed for a 6? If you do go for it, it's a great project.

Im very mechanically inclined. 2 stock turbos swapped, uppiped/downpipe installed. Plus I'm in the navy so a facility with the tools needed to do the job is not a problem. And I apologize for the the first post, what I wanted to know is did you do this with the engine still in place?

Yeah, first time I left the engine in. Easiest way to do it is to fab up a turnbuckle like arrangement so, you can tilt the engine back and forth. They show this tool in the manual. It's not that hard to make one out of parts available from home depot. The engine wants to tilt forward when you pull the tranny off it.

6 speed is very heavy too. You'll want a tranny/ATV jack.
