Im well aware of "the law" thanks. In many municipalities it is illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits unless your or someone else's life is in immediate danger. A random dog running down the street is not the same as a viscous animal attacking someone. Not saying that wasn't the case here but I sure as hell don't want cowboys in my neighborhood playing executioner and determining what dies unless absolutely necessary. (Hint-most instances can be resolved without the use of deadly force and it needs to be reserved and used only as a last resort.)

Also pretty sick and tired of this whole liberal vs conservative, us vs them bs. Bunch of crap really, not everything needs to be divided along political lines. Grow up, turn off Fox News, and open your eyes you sheep, there's more going on in this country than this blue vs red crap.

While it is true that discharging a firearm in a city without reason is illegal, shooting an aggressive dog is legal in most areas .. including cities. The dog does not have to be actively attacking anyone either, it can simply be acting in an aggressive manner (charging and chasing people for example).

Regardless, the event in question did not happen in a city, it happened in a rural area where I am sure discharging a firearm is not an issue. The dog had previously attacked his family members, he saw it out running around his property with no owner in sight, and made sure it would not attack anyone again. What's the issue here aside from you believing that dogs carry the same rights as human beings?

You seem very worked up over this dog being shot ... perhaps it is you who should get the tissues out. Maybe make a donation to PETA or something, that will make you feel better.

Does that make you more upset than him believing a married homosexual in the U.S. illegally should be allowed to have abortions?

No one shot a dog here, relax. For all you know he put down the dog by poisoning some treats.

I lived in St. Louis about 12 years ago. The city had a problem with packs of Dogs that had become feral. It was common to see reports, on the news, where people had shot & killed dogs.

I usually carry bear spray with me these days, Colorado thing. Very effective if a fight starts at the dog park.

Works good on dogs too.

very true about the bear spray. As part of my job I used to educate people on how to use bear spray and how to be safe in bear country. I would offer to test their bear spray to make sure it was working by spraying down wind. There were a couple times where the wind swirled a little and I got a small taste of it. That was not pleasant!

Works great on anything that breaths including a charging mother moose.

Not sure why this thread got political. I think common sense and the ability to reason are far more telling than a person's stand on gay marriage or abortion.

You keep assuming, you know what happens when you do that right?

Never said animals deserve equal rights as people. My concern is random people doing things like this IN populated neighborhoods and putting others at risk while discharging firearms. Ever seen how many walls a .45 travels through before it stops? How bout a 5.56?

Im also concerned as a responsible dog owner who has owned and currently owns pitbulls, Grumpypitbull... My dogs are and have always been very docile and extremely sweet and wouldn't hurt a hair on your head but some people look at me like I'm walking monsters down the street. They've never gotten out but in the event one did manage to escape from my yard, it scares me to think that someone could simply shoot it and then say it "looked" aggressive. I guess thats what you have to deal with when you own an "aggressive breed".

You're late to the ball Cinderella, Geronimo and I hashed this out yesterday. I understand that he did what he had to do to protect his family. I would have done the same to protect mine if there were no other option. My initial reaction was a bit too strong but after speaking with him, I understand his actions and he understood where I was coming from. You've missed the boat entirely.

Keep calling me liberal, its not that black and white bud. One look at a quarter of my firearm collection or half of the things I've done oversees and you'd drop that ish immediately. This red and blue stuff is just crap. Definitely not what our boys are fighting for overseas and absolutely not what I fought for while I was deployed.

As long as we're not talking about body armor, doesn't 5.56 (who the hell loads that stuff for SD/HD anyways) penetrate less than handgun rounds?

I hope the lesson we learned today isn't to shoot feral small-mid sized animals with rifle rounds LOL.

Yes 5.56 doesn't penetrate walls as far as hand gun and shot gun rounds. They do far more soft tissue damage, which is why it is a desirable varmint and self defense round

556 NATO rounds and 223 don't penetrate much at all. They do more for shattering once having made contact. Technically "safer" as a home defense round, yet the guns that use 'em... seem totally impractical for home defense.
Lets hope nobody actually needs home defense anyway.

By the way, wow. This thread totally lead to a strange back and forth about firearms. Did we finally establish that the OP needs a new exhaust or move, or stop being a baby about the fact that he's being rude to his neighbors?

K, getting way off topic now- Depends whats behind your target. Solid brick/cinder block, not so much. But put your target in front of your average apartment/house with drywall, those bullets WILL travel through and into your and your children's bedrooms. Seen it plenty of times. 5.56 rounds, while not much bigger than a .22 contain a much bigger charge, impact with much more force and will spall when impacting a solid object but often times large fragments will continue into and through your background. Not something I'd like to have fired around my wife and child if there's any other option.

Sorry for touching a nerve with this tangent, no hard feelings gents. I understand why Geronimo did what he had to do, hopefully no one else has to make a decision like that any time soon.

Cheers

Here's a bright idea: btc12345, why not create a new thread to bitch about gun control and animal rights, as this thread has been supremely derailed?

It would give you the proper venue to voice your frustrations in light of the demise of an allegedly aggressive dog.

Better idea: satin white pearl necklace, crawl back down that hole you came from. Or get used to the fact that on a public thread, on a public forum, people are gonna post things you may not like... either ones fine with me.

Gun control? No thank you...oh you think I'm a "liberal"? Not too bright huh?

Sure you didn't intend it .

You keep apologizing, and yet you keep running your mouth. You have 80 posts on this forum, and reading through your history it appears all you do is go into threads and talk crap .. and this isn't the first thread you have done this in. Your a troll, and a classic internet big-mouth.

You can play the "babe in the woods" all you want, but you are the one who derailed this thread, and continue to do so with inciteful comments.

Here's a novel idea ... why don't you try talking about Subaru's or actually helping people with their vehicle questions instead of going into threads and shooting your mouth off. That is, if you even have any useful vehicle knowledge to share.

You mean like you do...? Oh thats right, you just talk ish too... You're just another keyboard jockey who thinks his high post count makes him better than others. Come down off your soapbox big guy, I've seen your posts. You're nothing special.

Fyi- this thread was derailed far before I posted in it Friday night. This is nasioc, not everyone here's gonna blow smoke up your a$$, if you post something stupid, you'd better suit up. You should know that by now. And I did apologize to others but I certainly wasn't apologizing to your stupid a$$. Carry on little one...
