On the off chance that any of you like battle metal/viking metal, the Paganfest America 2013 tour will be hitting Tempe on April 1st (no, I'm not joking), at 910 Live. Ensiferum, Tyr, Heidevolk, Trollfest and Helsott will be playing.
I admit I'm not sure if I've listened to any of them, and was hoping Arkona and/or Turisas would be coming out, but still... So, anyway, FYI. Granted, I'm a slacker, but I just found out that the tour was hitting here at the beginning of the run (it's usually the end of the tour they hit Phx), so I thought I'd share the news.

does Amon Amarth count as Viking metal? I love that band... I haven't been to a metal show in awhile, last time I went I saw Rammstein on my birthday last year.

Of course it does. Amon Amarth is just awesome (although not difficult to play). Hey Psirene you ever heard of Otyg? They're what I call in the 'folk metal' genre. They cover Holy Diver. In such short notice I don't know if I'll be able to get out to see the fest.

I dig folk metal, too. Arkona is kinda like that, and I adore them. Although, I admit I have a soft spot for Masha Scream. Regardless, I definitely need to expand my folk/pagan/battle/whatever metal interests. I heard Dio on something I was listening to the other day, and got a little sad. We saw them a few years back - it was Dio, Priest, and I think Testament and Dream Theater. The Metal Masters tour, I think? Dio put on SUCH a good show. And it was amazing, there was a monsoon blowing in as they were playing, and the storm was nearly in time with the music. (up at Cricket, or Ashely Home Thing, or wtf it's called now). |

I am more into black metal and doom, but I enjoy some folk stuff like Primordial.
