I think the red is a disservice to the car. The blue looks much cleaner, although they're they same body shells.

Black, Blue... darker colors to hide the gaps.

if I am not mistaken, the red is Not painted but just the gel-coat form.

There was a photochop of the car in a dark grey that looked great.

Availability is now second or third quarter 2013, was hoping other people would be working the bugs out sooner than that.

A little disappointed about that, though the June 2013 date seems to be a conservative estimate with one model (S or R) potentially launching before the other. Dave has stated he's very happy with the R, not quite satisfied with the S at this point.

I see no reason to get the S over the R at this point. no roof, no side windows.. I'd rather have a street-legal S and wear a full-face helmet.

Yeah, where is the soft and/or hard tops?

I love that they used the stock mirrors... I wonder if that's the stock Subaru windshield?

Maybe you guys should read, the project isnt done, those are an unfinished product being showed at SEMA this year. Its outstanding work and the release of the kit doesnt happen till june or later estimated with estimated plenty of changes and hardtops and targas being optional for s.

Assume you meant street legal R? Only benefit of S at this piont is (without modification to the R as currently shown): Interior, can fit 2 passengers, don't need a helmet (wife would not like to wear a helmet all the time), and less expensive.

Do not believe that is a stock Subaru windshield.

At this point, neither a hardtop nor a targa are being planned. A soft top is being planned, but it will be an expensive option (est ~$3k). A hardtop could come later, and a targa would require that the rear body panel have a portion that covers the roll hoop.

Of course. My wife and I already ride motorcycles and we have an intercom system. I don't think she'd have a problem with riding in a street-legal R. The biggest issue would be ingress/egress.. but I think it's low enough for her to step into.

HaHa! That's me.

I was paying cash for my FM autocross car and was making fun of the stereotypical ghetto cash flash pics.

Pretty much.

From Dave Smith:

Guys, I had originally planned to discuss some major new initiatives at Factory Five, and I know that many of you were anxious to hear the three new items....All of that went out the window as the direct in-person response to the 818S and 818R was beyond anything I expected. I spent the week slowly realizing that the interest in the new car MUST drive (and change) my tactical plan. As it is now, I am making some major changes to my company's tactical plan, that involves shifting resources, adding crew, and soliciting even more help from our partner companies, customers and community..... ALL focused on the successful launch of the 818 model in an accelerated time frame without compromising the quality (frankly, needing to increase the launch quality) of the car and launch.

Bottom line is that while I may have, what I consider to be a great tactical plan, all of that has to take a back seat to the legitimate groundswell of passionate interest in our latest car model. I have to, in this case, listen to those who pay our rent. I'll have much more detail upon return from SEMA, and ask for your continued patience. HUGE thanks to all the FFR folks who stopped by and said hello at the show and especially a huge thanks for the very kind words on the 818. You guys have inspired the design team and FFR guys. We are very pleased with the reception of the concept and car and I promise only that we will redouble our efforts to make sure we are deserving of your support!

NO! Don't do it Dave. Do it RIGHT THE 1st TIME! Don't rush to get product out the door to meet consumer whims because it WILL cause greater problems in the long run.

When something does go wrong (and 1st releases always do), it will be blamed on you rushing things. There's no better answer to those who "want" than to say "we're going to get out the best product we can, and do it right".
