Congrats! Do you have any custom plans, or is it going to be by the book?

Hi.

A few of us have separate build threads in the gallery forum (at least 3 of us). I have't worked on mine since before Easter. Something about a baby surprising us 6 weeks early of her due date putting a hold on things.

I'm here! My 818 kit doesn't arrive until November, but I got my donor on Friday. It's a 2006 WRX with 142,500 miles that appears to be completely stock, other than exahust. She was hit pretty hard in the rear, I mean the bumper is nearly in the back seat- but she drives! There are dummy lights and chimes galore, and coolant spewing from what looks like a vent on top of the radiator that's missing a cap or tube, but other than that the parts that matter to me look good! Now it's evaluation time, I figure a compression test is first. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm a longtime Subaru fan, but a first time owner.

Thanks. Nothing too wild planned but it'll have a built motor and we'll probably size the turbo for 300-400whp. We're a ways from that still so we haven't discussed it much.

The frame and aluminum panels are going off for white powdercoat this week, so that'll be a bit unique since FFR only offers black.

Anyone interested in seeing the 818r in action, there will be two factory built ones at Virginia international Raceway tomorrow for the Ultimate Track Car Challenge and for a magazine photoshoot. The red one is the new spec build and is suppose to be even faster than the pre-production blue one.

Well hats off to all you guys building these. I just dropped by my best friend's house from back home and his dad is building a GTM. The amount of work is staggering.

Yeah, they really could have done better on the front end.

Hahaha! That's actually quite funny. If I had better (read: any) fiberglass skills I'd make a new front end.

FFR 818...$10,000 + wrecked/used Subaru + Shipping. Can be done for as little as $15,000, less if you resell parts and get creative.

Saker .....$$????

I'm guessing the Saker isn't a fair comparison.

I'd compare an 818 with a TR42.

I'd compare a Saker with a Superlite SLC.

Yeah I guess that is one way to look at it if you aren't putting a cost on how long they take to put together.

Personally, I'm not. The whole reason for the 818 is to build it yourself. And "build" is stretching it....more like "assemble".

I, again personally, don't understand folks who pay others to assemble these types of cars. Paint?- yes. Complete turn keys?- no.

it's pretty simple, they don't have the skills to assemble a vehicle. Remember, there are people who **** up basic oil changes.

Or their time is worth more than the $150 per hour that these shops charge

If you're pulling in $150/hr there are much better cars for your megabucks. But I suppose rich guys need trashy toys too.

even at that rate these cars are significantly cheaper than many that you may be thinking about. Plus the value of time isn't always about how much you get paid.

generally you are gonna build one of these in your freetime
time you weren't getting paid for anyway
so the assembly/build time costs you nothing

Details on New Factory Five 818C Coupe
Following the 818S roadster and the 818R track car comes the 818C coupe. Here are some spyshots of the soon-to-be-released Factory Five 818C hard top coupe. The new coupe will be unveiled at the 2015 summer Open House, and we are building the chassis right now in the engineering shop.

Side rear quarter window glass incorporates an air intake slot.

The roof scoop is functional. Fresh air intake for the engine bay with an integral inner linear that ducts air through the cockpit and into the engine bay. This is being designed as a source for cold air to the intercooler.

The 818C project involves about six months of shaping and mold making.

The 818C hard top is designed to retro-fit to all current 818S models. It will not fit the 818R. The design includes the following features:

Power side windows
Rear quarter glass and side-vented engine bay
Hinged rear glass hatch
Inner bulkhead with rear window
Inner hard top linear with air intake duct to engine bay
Comes with front windshield glass

Pricing is not available at this time. Production start date is estimated June 2015

Interesting, so it can fit an existing S model, but it doesn't look like something that would be removable like a hardtop. Unique windshield as well. Hopefully they though of us taller folks though I suspect this is going to be pricey and I'm a fan of the open car.

Glad to see it being developed.
