2011+ Impreza head unit into 2009?
My parents have a 2009 WRX, which doesn't have bluetooth. I have a 2011 WRX, which does. Is it possible for them to upgrade to a factory 2011 head unit, and is that a usable solution without also getting the combination switch on the steering wheel for it? They could always get an aftermarket bluetooth stereo, but in my experience they've mostly been pretty terrible, not that the factory BT is all that great. Just wondering how easy this would be to do.

The factory 11+ unit is a complete piece of crap. Much better off going aftermarket

It's a piece of crap, but the 09 is worse, and I'm guessing you can get an 11 unit for dirt cheap off someone on here upgrading to a real head unit.

the 2011 bluetooth is a steaming pile of crap.
considering the effort you'll make trying to integrate the factory `11 stuff you're better off going aftermarket and getting something that doesn't sound like crap. |

2011 head unit is some work and $$ to integrate into the earlier car. Steering wheel controls are not the same, you'll need at least the bluetooth buttons there to use that. You don't want to know what it will take to add the second wire that runs through the roll connector down the steering column. Then you'll need the overhead bluetooth mic and roof panel, fab up a wiring harness for that...
Totally not worth it. |

Make sure the blue tooth supports the Bluetooth profile of your patents phone or you'll be pissed
