Bad for OKC because they should have kept their core together and tried for a championship again. If it doesn't work, trade him next year if they can't work out an extension. I don't see how you can justify breaking up a team that just made it to the finals to get back a lesser player in K-mart and a prospect in lamb who won't be a major impact player on a team for at least a couple years, if at all.

Bad for Houston because harden will surely get a max contract from them He worked well in OKC coming off the bench for his play making and scoring but there's no way he'll be able to lead a team as a #1 option.

Either way I love this trade because it puts the LAL even further ahead in the west
They couldn't wait until after this season. He will be a RFA after the year and would likely have multiple max offers.

He actually will get 5 years $78 million from Houston.

So he's gonna get more than $20 million guaranteed than if he had resigned with OKC with their offer.

Interesting. When I saw on espn they said 60. I guess when he's on Houston though they can sign him an extra year. So that makes sense

I'm assuming the difference is an extension vs new contract.

No it's the diff between 4 years and 5 years. 5 year contracts are limited now-a-days.

I think the trade was good for every party involved. Houston is taking some big risks, much more than OKC. They're banking a lot on Harden and Lin, which might pay off in the long run, but as I rarely watch them, I can't say I know a lot more about their roster. I don't think Lin is overrated (unless someone is calling him the next Nash or something). I suspect Houston is going to try to create a mini Wade/James setup since they are both ball handlers.

Does Houston have any good bigs? I would LOVE to see the Rockets eclipse the Mavs this season

I thought the team you were currently with could offer the longer contract? Has that changed?

I was reading something the other day about how teams only get one 5 years now. Lemme go search.

"Working against an extension as well are changes in the new CBA. Teams can give only five-year deals to max players, and they can do that only once. OKC already pulled that trigger with Westbrook's five-year, $80 million deal."

http://www.nba.com/2012/news/feature...009/index.html

I probably don't understand it though.

I don't know man. I don't really care for the Heat, but adding Ray Allen really gives them a sharp shooter and makes them scary. But I think Green will be very active tonight for the C's.

I can't wait for my Lakers game though

As a Lakers fan it sucks watching them take a loss like this. BUT, I called it preseason and hope that it kinda of does go down like this. I don't mind the Lakers losing a few more games because I can't stand coach Brown. I hate him as a coach.

Honestly, He's still trying to work out an offensive system? You had all preseason games and training camp. I don't believe that bull about Howard being injured and Kobe not playing and Nash no playing enough with them all. If you're still trying to figure out an offensive system with this team you shouldn't be the coach.

CN: Bring back Phil Jackson

I've said it before but Darren Collison is drastically underrated.

p.s. Good morning Crees.

I didn't realize the NBA started last night.

The NBA and MLB are just too damn long to be interesting. I mean the NBA took what, 3 months off?

The length is something that I like actually. If I'm really busy and miss a month's worth of games, it's no big deal.

Unlike football where you miss a couple of games and that's 1/4 of the season.

That's why I only pay attention to every other year of basketball.

Last year was so painful to watch, I think I might skip 2 years.
