Default 2008 STi 292whp/337wtq No Mods

Tuned by TurboMike. Tune was done at No Limit Motorsport in Medford, NY on Sat 3/28. Temp was mid to upper 50's.

The car has no mods. No intake, no exhaust, no downpipe, no drop-in filter. Nada. Just the tune. The car peaked at 238whp/262wtq before Mike got at it.

Charts Below.

Big thanks to Mike. I must say that I am truly impressed that he could squeeze a 54 whp gain out of a mechanically bone stock car. It feels like a totally different beast now. No stuttering like it used to, it just pulls. 4th used to be depressing on the highway, now its a beast. Sigh....now its time to start buying mods...

FYI
My 06 wrx, also tuned by mike, put down 243whp/335wtq on the same dyno. Most stage 2 06 wrx's I've seen on here put down similar whp numbers on various dynos.....just to give perspective on how this dyno reads.

Mods were
Stock TD04 Turbo
ERZ Dp
APS 3"CBE
SPT Intake
APS Inlet
SSAuto FMIC

Was the 238whp run on the stock tune or an OTS?

the 238 was on totally stock ecu. Boost is now somewhere in the 18psi range tapering to 16. The graphs above show WHP v. WTQ and AFR v. Boost for both stock tune and Mike's tune. Blue line is Mike's tune red line is stock. You can see that the stock AFR line looks very similar to other stock 08 AFR curves posted here and other sites.

Great numbers. Mike is the man. I have similar numbers on my stage 1 self tune. Enjoy!

Your results basically mirror mine for just a tune on an 08sti. I am running 92 octane out here in Oregon.

msdbsptc: I can post my dyno graph as well but this is your thread so I feel I need your permission.

Stock:
229awhp/251tq 15.6psi (no even married to the AP).

Tuned:
281awhp/318tq 18.1psi

this dyno reads very high, an 07 lgt made 300whp on a stock vf40stage II, not possible I think the correction factor is 1.2. The fact remains that the gains are there and were made from before and after, but realistically its 20whp or so lower.

Yea I dunno how this dyno reads....Ive seen similar numbers for 08s here and on IWSTI but I've also seen much lower numbers. The AMR page for exacmple shows their bone stock 08 putting down 201whp or something, also on a Dyno Dynamics. I guess it all comes down to the correction factor.

Also the numbers I posted for my 06 were spot on to others I've read about on various dynos.

Anyway like you said its not the end hp number that is impressive, its the hp gain. The fact that he was able to get so much out of the the stock car is definitely worth praise.

If you dont mind me asking....How long did it take to get that tune and what kind of dough did you have to lay down to have him get those types of numbers for you? Im spent on trying to decide which way to go on cost factor for best results, yet this is looking very appealing.

Thanks
Z

I paid to rent the dyno by the hour. I don't want to put money numbers out there to be fair to No Limit but it took him under two hours to tune the car. Also I don't know if Mike has a "standard rate" or anything like that, you would have to get that info from him. You should PM him because he is local to your region.

Car was tuned via Opensource.

I have no idea about the boost dip, but I just realized its on both the new tune and the stock tune....I'll ask next time I see him.

Nice numbers indeed. The HP and TRQ gains were very substantial but by looking at your Stock AFRs and PSI readings...I was wandering if that was badly flashed ECU from the factory. The AFR's seemed to hold steady around 12-13 then drop off around 3600 RPM. I noticed mine did roughly the same thing except stay flat at 14 until closer to 4500 when it dropped off. Pressure readings were also very low where my stock boost levels hit as high 18PSI. Either way to turn the ECU turning around turning something bad into positive gains is incredible. I have a video of mine that I am going to post later but you can actually tell (the black cloud out the tail pipe pretty sums it up ) when the ECU said hey I am running a little lean and DUMPS gas into it. HORRIBLE FACTORY TUNING!! Mine goes in for tuning Wednesday . Hopefully I can replicate your results.

usually this pattern...peak, dip, peak, dip, peak, dip is a result of the turbo dynamics working.

when you hit the overboost point the turbo dynamics tell the ecu to pull wgdc, so then you're underboosting so the turbo dynamics start adding it back in.....this cycle repeats over and over.

Its either that or the stock bcs being crappy.

Either way you will have more consistent power with a EBCS.....or just cut your TD's in half so the oscillations arent as big.
