So I walked up to this kid the other day and decided to have a little fun. It went a little like this:

me: Hey sir, is that your Subaru out there?
him: Yes it is, you're not planning on giving me a ticket are you?
me: Why would I do that?
him: ...Oh.. never mind... What's up?
me: I have a Subaru legacy and I'm actually looking for a hood, do you happen to know where I could find one?
him: Nasioc
me: What? Nasi-what?
him: N-A-S-I-O-C, It's an internet forum and they have a private classifieds section where members sell parts, I'm sure you'd be able to locate a hood there.
me: Ok thanks. I probably shoulnd't be telling you this, but I actually raced one that looks like yours and he only took me off the launch, we were dead even after that...Oh I just remembered, my clutch is toast, so that's why he beat me...
him:Yeah man, that makes sense.
me: You know, I was thinking of doing a WRX engine and turbo swap, because everything else on the car is the same as the STi. Drivetrain, suspension, everything. It's a pretty cool little car.
him:I'd recommend an STi swap, preferably with forged pistons, that'd be the best bet as far as power and reliability ( for some reason he was trying to hold back a smile).
me: Yeah, totally agree
him: Well, I have to get back to work, good luck with your legacy..

This story is 100% true, I still can't believe that a sherriff told me about how he street raced his legacy against a 'car that looked like mine'.

A couple weeks ago, I was going on lunch at work (I work at a Toyota dealership). I was pulling out of the employee parking and right in front of me on the lot was one of our salesman showing a man and his small boy the Tacoma's. I stopped to look both ways before I pulled out and the boy heard my rumble and turns around and his jaw just dropped. He immediately started pulling on his dads shirt going "Daddy look!" And pointed at my car. His dad looked and did a double take and just asked the salesman how much for one of those? Put a big smile on my face until the salesman started whining because the guy went down to the Subaru dealership

Shouldn't have pissed off that salesman too much, as you guys are attached to a Suby lot.

The day I got my WRX, the car was sitting in the garage. My 6 year old son was pointing towards the hood scoop and asked, "Dad, what does that thing do? Does it shoot out fire?" I was tempted to say, "Why, yes it does son!" but figured I better be truthful...I explained a little bit on what the scoop's function is and now he calls it "that thing that makes the car go fast..."

I had a good one this morning. I stopped at an open house this morning on my way to work just to check it out. After taking the tour, I was about to leave and the agents partner came in from outside and struck up a conversation about my car.

Him: Is that your silver car out there?
Me: Yes, that is my Subaru
Him: Does it have the Porsche motor in it?
Me: No, its not a Porsche motor. It has a flat 4 in it that is the same layout as the Porsche motor though.
Him: I thought they had Porsche motors in them. My nephew has one like that.
Me: Its the same design as the Porsche motor, in a flat configuration, but its alot cheaper and easier to work on.
Him: His has the Porsche motor in his. It also has the Porsche chassis.
Me: (okay????) Oh really?
Him: Yeah. Its pretty fast. Is yours fast?
Me: Fast enough to get in trouble.
Him: Does yours have the button? (imitates pushing a button with his finger)
Me: Which button?
Him: My nephews car has a button that he pushes for boosting. When he pushes it that thing really puts you back in your seat.
Me: Really?
Him: Yeah, he bought his for 30 thousand
Me: Wow, I got mine cheaper than that
Him: His is really nice
Me: I'm sure it is
Him: Its really fast too with that Porsche motor (rambled on some more about the Porsche motor and chassis and how good it was)
Me: Well, I really have to get to work, have a nice day.
Him: Alright, stay out of trouble.

Porsche motor and chassis, huh?

Sounds like some Subaru owner out there is only slightly familiar with his Subaru.

Most people are probably too young to know but the Beetle made the pancake motor decently famous. Woooo VW Bug!

My mechanic step/father said the same thing about my buddies STi. He's said it should really be checked out. And I said no, it's suppose to sound like that a little tick and that obnoxious low rumble. And he just walked away after that. Haha

Hearing stuff like that annoys me. A buddy of mine was born into a fortunate family and his dads a car enthusiest so for a grad present (college) he got an 09 M3. Everyone's like ah he's such a rich kid whatever. Nah. He's a good dude. With a cool dad, **** off.
It all depends on the person. I know a kid who got a Porsche turbo at 16, barely even talks about it. On the other hand, I also know a kid who got a new GT500 and feels obligated to make sure everyone knows it

As long as people respect their cars and don't shove it down everyone's throat, I could care less about what rich kids drive.

I was showing a guy from work my car when I commented about my Impreza being made in Japan vs the Legacy I was looking at being made in the U.S., he responded with "Japan...Are you sure? Isn't Subaru Australian? You know...outback and the stars on the badge and all that?"

I'm assuming hes not the first

My sister is lioking for a new car so I took her to the local stealership. First thing the sales guy says is "please say you are trading that in" referring to my bugeye. Of course no is the answer but he kept asking.
About 30 minutes later we took a 2010 impreza for a test drive. I commented on how it was weird for me because it was N/A. His response...
"Wow how much did that cost to convert it over? Is it turbocharged or supercharged..."

:face palm:

Haha. This reminds me of when I test drove mine 3 years ago. I was 18 and the guy from the dealership was probably 24ish. So it was pretty cool because he was younger and it "seemed" like he knew a lot about cars. So I'm driving, him in the passenger seat, and my girlfriend in the back. I asked him to take me to some winding roads so I could see how it handled. I told him before we left that if i was going to buy it I wanted to see what it had and he said "oh yes by all means give it hell" (of course knowing I break it I bought it). So we get to some back roads with stop signs and hard turns and I was just cruising in 2nd then hammered it. Girlfriend yells slow down and salesman hit his imaginary brake and says "whoa why is a wagon this fast.." when we got back he told me to pop the hood and check out how clean it was and the awkward mounting of the radiator . But he still made the sale that day.

I had one service guy look at me funny when I was explaining how I was putting snow tires on my car. He points to the car and goes "what, its not AWD?". I just said, (instead of being like, dude what Subaru post 2000+ (except the BRZ) in the USDM has been anything but) "No it is, I just want the extra security."

I just want to assume he was new and couldn't really tell what car I had.
