why the conservative tune on race juice....?

looks like your tuner dumped ~5psi above 5k...

Because the turbo is a small turbo. Its only a 49lbs turbo.

It is a little surprising the heads weren't cammed with Kelford B cams or GSC S1 cams to help the VE from rolling off hard above 5500rpm. Having a nice flat ve until 6500-7000 would have been great, but it is what it is.

Allow me to show you something I have put together in a excel spreadsheet. Will post in a few.

Code:
Wa = Airflowactual(lb/min)
CHP	WHP (est)A/f BFSC Wa (lb/min)
500	450	10.9	0.55	50
480	430	10.9	0.55	48
460	410	10.9	0.55	46
440	390	10.9	0.55	44
420	370	10.9	0.55	42
400	350	10.9	0.55	40
380	330	10.9	0.55	38
360	310	10.9	0.55	36
340	290	10.9	0.55	34
320	270	10.9	0.55	32
300	250	10.9	0.55	30
200	150	10.9	0.55	20
In theory for a 2.5 engine and intake temperatue of 122F @ 27.26psi. I only map at 27 based on his curve, but you get the idea

Engine flow:
Code:
2500	3000	3500	4000	4500	5000	5500	6000	6500
24	30	35	40	44	49	54	59	64
As you can see, after 5000 or thereabout depending on his engine ve and other factors, boost needs to start rolling off. Again, no posting in reference to his ve, but after 5000 boost needs to be pull to 23psi. yeap.

If money grew on trees, i'd be driving a ferrari, not a subaru. :P
Heads and Cams will likely be down the road. I am going to pick up a set of doner heads to have built. So i am ready for when the motor is pulled. I had catastrophic engine failure so, shyting 15k for that at once was tough enough. Hence why i held off on Cams/Heads. Thinking of going Dom3 when i do them too.

That's ok. Your car is a nice car for short twisty road or autocross, autoX or what ever auto. Enjoy it.

I know the expense. I have a customer building. Original budget was $10K. We are far over it. I wanted him to get an MPS engine, but it wasn't possible. Cost going through the roof.

The Dom 3 would be sweet. I personal will keep following this page when you do.

I think your build would be a great candidate for a UEL to EL header comparison. Would definitly hold better power up top possibly increase torque down low as well. There is definitly more power to be had by going EL.

you daily on race gas...?

in my eyes, the point of a race gas tune is to make max power otherwise what is the point...?....that turbo has 450whp in it easy on 109...on a built motor ?...ha, no sweat...

btw, my old oem vf pro tune on stock block is not remotely comparable to a dom1.5 on a built motor...

anyways, i'm not hating...heck, i've got a 1.5 as well, 'cept i'm still on the stock block...

Not going to get 450whp out of a 1.5 unless its like sub zero temps with headwork, lol. I have stock heads and cams, Maybe with built heads, but not with the mods that i have. I ran race gas one time, Cost me AEM Map Sensor and 5 gallons of race gas, why not? Ofc i wont drive it daily on race gas, but when i take it on vacation to the beach (OC MD for those local guys) and stuff, you best believe ill be rolling down with a few 5 gallon cans :P
The point of building the block and running a smaller turbo was to keep reliability.
I wish i could afford to daily on race gas. Woulda gone e85 but there are not enough pumps within my living radius to make it worth my time without having to plan trips.

And sure its a very easy compare your old vf tune to a 1.5. They are both small turbos and i was refering to the same curve they both produced and how they both dropped off in the higher rpms. Could always go with a bigger turbo that pulls thru all the higher rpms, then it spools later. Its one or the other tbh.

Have you honestly NEVER been over 6500 RPM on the street? I'll call BS on that one.

OP, glad you are happy with your results, If/when you do headwork this thing will have a BEAUTIFUL power band even if it simply holds flat after peak.

You can't really go off what type of dyno it is anymore for comparing. Mustangs have changed there calibrations in recent time frame so they appear to read more closer to dynojet than they use to. Also I've seen dyno comparisons of cobbs mustang vs dynojet and it read higher than the DJ did. Also to many companies have come up with their own calibrations. The one good thing for DJ is as long as your weather inputs are correct all of them read close to each. Not the case with other dynos.

Also I see a lot of people showing uncorrected numbers, that is useless. As 2 cars could be making different numbers, one tuned when hot and other when cold. You would think by looking at dyno sheets they made different power, but in reality on same weather conditions day they would make the same power.

Agreed^ except the part about uncorrected numbers being useless.

I like seeing both corrected and uncorrected so you can see the difference yourself some times the corrections are stupid high...IE elevation.
