Yeah, any metal bouncing around in the cyl usually means bad news... But the EJ22t pistons should help you out! Are they going to lower your compression at all?

You can definitely see the impact it had on the valves. I dont know where the peice went, because my turbo is still kickin it, and nothing in the oil pan..(if it was able to make it to the oil pan, I probably couldnt see it anyways!)

I need some info on internal and external wastegates i have a td04l turbo and im trying it get it down to 5 psi of boost which is the best method

If you take out the restrictor pill that the WRX uses, the actuator is either 7 or 5 psi depending on the year. Can't tell you which atm. Easiest way is to run just the wastegate as it sits with no restrictor pill. No cost at all. If that wastegate is too much, the cheapest thing you can do is buy a wastegate with the pressure spring for 5psi or less.

Would 7 psi be too much on stock internals also i was thinking about getting DOHC 2.5 heads with 2.5 manifold, about how much would i be spending on this set up including exhuast i understaind with DOHC dual port i can use a WRX exhaust but i would need a crossmember. Im torn between the two because i learned in school that basically all DOHC means is more to fix when something goes wrong, but i also learned that i would need a little lower compression ratio than my SOHC has which is 9:1 (i think?) to run more boost and be safe

Oh no man, you have higher than 9.0:1. You have a 9.7:1 CR engine. And a buttload of timing advance(my scangauge shows a peak advance of 50 degrees BTDC!!!). Head swaps do wonders for making stock internals take more boost. I am using EJ25 SOHC heads because they are some of the best flowing heads subaru made. Both EJ25 DOHC and SOHC heads flow much better than EJ22s and they will lower your compression to mid 8s. That will make things hold up to much more. Conservatively, I think you could run 10 psi without much issue on a EJ22 with EJ25 heads, many have run more. Keep in mind that this assumes proper tuning.
The reason I went with a WRX header setup is because the headers are better designed to get the exhaust velocity to the turbo, reducing lag time and the presence of heat shielding keeps heat in the exhaust that would otherwise radiate out with an aftermarket header. If you use either your stock single porter or the stock EJ25 header, these also do decently well. Maybe not quite as good as the wrx but they are thick piping and heat shielded. |

Right on, then thats the route im gonna take also, before i buy is there any specific year model heads i should find or do they pretty much all fit. and do i need a new intake manifold also?

I'm told that if you use DOHC EJ25 heads, it is a direct bolt on to your engine. Sensors, Intake manifold, everything. For the headgaskets, I'm pretty sure the normal EJ22 headgaskets won't line up with the ports on the heads. I know the SOHC heads don't. However luckily for us, the famous EJ22t heads have those same passages, so order the turbo legacy (91-94 I think) and all will be well. You will have to replace your timing belt with the DOHC for sure.

Ordered Gauges (Boost and EGT) and a boost controller today! getting closer now! researching exhaust now still havent completely decided on the head chance think i may run the stock ones for now then upgrade later another question haha if i use the stock heads with single port should i keep same diameter exhaust or can i go a little bigger and just compensate with the emange

Update ordered a set of ej251 Sohc dual ports with 30k! parts list coming together nicely gonna have to get head gaskets now!

Some of you may know that I run a built EJ22T, but I would still rock an EJ22E block with my engine setup and a 20G; as in SAME internals, just different block.

Fuji, how well did the 20G work for you spool time wise and power wise?
Just make sure you get the right side cam gear, your gears won't fit that side. But you also have to use your cam gear on the sensor side to make your ecu happy. And start looking for the EJ25 intake manifold and throttle body, you'll need top feed injectors and the pigtails for those on that manifold too. Ok.
Q1- The bolt patterns are all the same, as long as the headgaskets are the EJ22t (for the water passages) you should be good. Some say that the P2 sensors or trigger signals don't work with the P1 ecu. As long as you use the cam gear from your car and the crank gear from your car, your ECU won't know the difference. I just tested this, and the sensor does pick up the P1 signal, so as long as the connector fits on the cam sensor (I'm pretty sure it does but haven't done the final test yet), it will work. MAF/MAP motors don't make a big difference for the heads. Q2- Pigtails are connectors cutout of the harness with a length of wire left on the end. Basically you cut them out of another engine harness, cut your existing ones out of yours, and then solder the new ones in. |

Awesome man i really appreciate all the help, ive been tearing down diesel engines all week and i know the heads on those have no kind of sensors whatsoever that being said theres a big difference between gasoline and diesel engines haha. Cant wait untill i can actually get home and start work on my project, my goal is to order everything now that way once i get there i can spend about one week putting everything together and tuning although there will be misc things ill have to get then like different hoses for the turbo connections and brackets for mounting everything up. May have to start a new thread haha i know this is the boosted ej22e club dont want it to turn into my build thread haha

So i got a perrin boost controller today, and ive been looking at intake manifolds theres one for the 2.5 on ebay but theres alot of different models from forresters, 02 and up imprezas, legacys all around 100 bucks some with fuel rails and injectors and certain model i should get? also have you heard anything bad, good about ebay wrx headers?

As long as you get a cable throttle manifold it won't make a huge difference. I was a dumbass and got a DBW one. However I wanted to keep my separate IACV, so I went with it and modified the manifold (It was an 06 impreza). Earlier 00s are your best bet.
Check on the classifieds on here and other forums. More often than not, things are half the price of even ebay lol. |

I am beginning my ej22e-T project.
So far all I have are ej25 SOHC heads, wrx crossmember, wrx water pump and wrx intake manifold. Looking forward to accumulating the rest of the stuff over the next two months. It's much to cold to spend days in the garage anyhow. |
