Quick Exhaust Question
Okay, I have finally figured out what way I want to go with regards to exhaust, and an looking for advise on where to buy the parts.
Catalytic Converter Random Technology Exhaust System Stromung dual tip Cat-back I would love to get the stromung SS system, but my funds might not allow it. I have contacted two local shops over the past two weeks regarding ordering, but neither one of them have been able to provide a price as of yet. I would like to order these things tomorrow, but it isn't looking good right now.

If anybody has any ideas on other ways to go let me know as well. I really don't want the buzz-bomb sound that you can get from some systems, and like the sound of the Stromung, but I am willing to look into other brands. I have heard the HKS system is pretty good as well. Anybody have experience with it?

I think you're choice is the way to go if you're not into the coffee can look or the loud exhaust.
The dual tip I have is good for what it does. It's a little louder then stock yet retains the stock look. So people knows you're coming when you step on it. It has a nice low rummble to it at idle. If you're still not sure, why not ask to hear people's setup? I am sure there's all kinds of setup in Mid-A. Good luck. |

Hey DC,
I don't recommend that you go with the RD HF Cat, I have the 2nd generation which is not suppose to get a CEL....ah yeah right, after 2 miles BAM there was the CEL and it's been on for over a month now and it's really annoying, thus I have ordered a CEL fix but haven't recieved it yet, hope that fixes the problem. Anyhow unless your going to do racing at High RPMS then it won't make that much of a difference, cuz with it on yeah it's pretty much straight flow, thus you loose just about all the LOW end torque cuz there is very little back pressure, unless your running a turbo, well for the money vs HP ratio, not worth it. Sides you get so much crap from cops cuz when you put this baby on with an aftermarket exhaust, damn the exhaust gets LOOOOOUD! NO KIDDING. Anyhow good luck, I just thought I'd share that with ya, just my 2 Cents. |

The RandomTechnology cat really does nothing other than reduce power and allow some of Virginia's finest to feed me grief?
The main reason for the exhaust system is get rid of that crappy light. Does anybody have any reccomondations for a cat that will take care of the light? |

No no, I'm not saying that it doesn't produce more HP's, I'm saying that it will cost you a bit more money to get raid of the CEL, with the HF cat your car will REV up faster then ever, therefore you will get more top end power, but unfortunately if you do get a straight flow exhaust you will loose the low end torque cuz of the lack of back pressure, and NA cars need some back pressure VS the turbo which the less back pressure the more power and the faster the turbos will spool.
As for another brand, well there is NO one else that makes the "true" HF cat like Random Tech, so you'll just have to deal with it as I have and every other member out there with the same problem of Cat indeficency. but I'll let you know when I have my CEL fix spliced in to my OBD2 02 sensor and if it gets raid of it, woohooo, money well spent. Anyhow Good luck with your choice but I'll keep you updated with the CEL fix. |

If you havent noticed yet, I am a complete newbie with this car. I am very unfarmiliar with the different parts that will be needed. When you mention having to splice something into the O2 sensor to take care of the CEL, it get me thinking. The reason that I am replacing the exhaust is for that light, and if I have a light on again afterwards my wife will wonder why I just spent all of this money to take care of the CEL and not have it out. At that point I will have a lot of explaning to do.
Is the OBD II splice a wiring thing, or a physical part that is spliced into the wiring harness? |

Well the problem with Subaru's is that the Perimeters on the car is set so tight that anything you do with the car aftermarket most likely will set of a CEL. But in your case you need to find out what is causing the CEL to start with then you can deal with the other mods CEL at another time.
As for the OBDII 02 sensor, yeah it's a small chip that you have to physically splice and solder into the 02 so it's "suppose" to fool the ECU to think that everything is functioning correctly. |

Here's my two cents worth
You can get a CEL fix from subaruwrxparts.com and it will work YOu can get your CEL code pulled for free from AutoZone I have a Random Tech highflow cat sitting in the garage right now because there flange issues. It doesn't quite match up to the flanges on my Bosal downpipe & catback. They are trying to work with me on this. The only solution we can think of as of now would be to cut off the flanges and weld new flanges that are OE spec...my Bosal stuff has OE spec fittings. But there still may be an issue with the downpipe. It's 2.75 and the Random is 3.0 I'm pondering what to do but may exchange it for some springs and revisit this issue another time. |

Guess my point was that you might want to make sure everthing is going to bolt up. I too have bought some stuff from Teagues and Dale is real nice.

I actually ordered everything from Stromung. They aven have a direct replacement high flow cat that they have not yet started to advertise. I spoke to them on another issue, and everything was going to ship on Friday.
