Default Water pump failures?

I posted this in service & matience also, seems performance gets WAY more hits.... anyways, I own a 2002 WRX with ~66k on the clock, mods are:

-Uppipe
-Downpipe
-3" catless exhaust
-Airbox resonator removed, K&N drop in filter
-TurboXS BOV
-TurboXS MBC
-TurboXS UTEC

I noticed some leaking coolant smell few days ago (just purchased this car with 64k on it oct 21), got in there today and noticed it's leaking from between where the water pump mates to the block and the gasket is only 2$ but it's a PITA to change, is this at all common? can i get subaru to fix it? this is bs, i know the mileage is high but he drove it back/forth to work 150 miles per day and the 5 year warranty is not ever barely over 2 years old now and the mileage is damn close, what can i do

It's only leaked a few ounces of coolant since I caught it, so no overheating or associated damage, everything's fine, sitting in the garage until I figure out what I can do

Has the timing belt been changed yet? If not, this is an opportune time to kill two birds with one stone. I wouldn't count on Subaru fixing it because it doesn't sound like a pump failure, just a leak.

Yeah, it is not that hard to change really. Just pull the radiator to make room. It could easily be done in 2-3hrs taking your time.

the dihydro monoxide flow motivators in subarus do not use a gasket from the factory..if i recall. they are installed with sealant....the replacement ones use a gasket. more then likely..it is leaking from the weep hole, indicatinf a seal is getting ready to go. buy a new WP, timing belt, and i would replace the crank seal at the least. it is MAJORLY prone to leak oil....on any subaru timing belt job i do, i install new oil seals. not much more to install...saves comebacks down the road.

setting timing belt is not that hard. get a copy of the FSM and you are all good.

I thought the timing belt didn't need changing until 100k+?
