OK, I tried doing a print screen of my image in Photoshop vs. the exact same image once saved and uploaded to my website (via SmugMug). The upload made both sides of the image look darker than they actually look, but you can tell that the side of the image from my website is much darker/contrasty in comparison to the side of the image from Photoshop. I also uploaded to PhotoBucket and you can tell that the image is definitely lighter there. What is going on?

What are you talking about?
Here is another example that is probably better than the screen shot. This is the same image uploaded to SmugMug vs. Photobucket. The SmugMug image looks much darker. Up until recently I did not have this issue. SmugMug: Photobucket: |

Recently, people have been saying my photos are over saturated and I kept wondering why.

Can we get a flickr comparison too? That's more widely used than Photobucket I feel.

Yeah, I could try to do that. Do those two images look drastically different to everyone else? I am now on my laptop using Firefox (instead of Chrome), and the images look basically identical. The SmugMug image is not all blacked out like it was on my PC with Chrome.

The Smug Mug picture is definitely darker. I'm looking at it through Chrome right now.

Thanks for confirming that! After doing more research, I think it might be a SmugMug/Chrome combo issue, where the real issue is with Chrome. It appears that SmugMug actually uses the color profile (many other sites do not), and then Chrome does NOT use the color profile. For some reason this is causing the images too look weird. I'm still looking into it more to try and confirm and find a fix.

I notice a difference in "exposure" from when it leaves Lightroom to Flickr. Then I view it in here and it seems off sometimes. I look at the original image in Lightroom and it's dead on.

there are sooo many factors that change the appearance of your photos.
image mode on photoshop, the color profile you have it set to, the save settings you use such as embedded color profiles, or save for web compared to save as, and even the file size/quality/or resolution. ive also noticed depending on your internet speeds ive seen some hosting site lose quality over slower uploading time theres also diff monitor settings, and diff monitors display resolutions differently when viewing an image in photoshop compared to a web browser. i work for an automotive parts company as a product photographer/ graphic designer with everyone in the office on dual monitors and it never fails, even with all our monitors calibrated some screens show the brightness/contrast differently than others. |

I'm using Opera web browser, one monitor is an NEC (2490WUXI2) and an old Samsung (Syncmaster 930B). The NEC is an IPS type monitor and the 2 shots look the same but on the Samsung the photo from SmugMug has slightly higher black levels, exposure seems the same. I'd rather deal with inconsistent uploading than differences between on camera raw (preview and histogram) and Lightroom raw (appearance/histogram). Differences between camera and Lightroom means changes to exposure making polarization change. |

You'll need to upload your photos to a web host first in order to post them on a thread here. Flickr.com is probably the most popular, but there's also PhotoBucket and Imgur as well. Just about all of those will give you the proper code to insert your photo into a forum.

Here's another one from the same day as the last one I posted. Very simple background but I think the colors work well together. I'm happy with this shot. I'm finding that I like simple set ups. Nothing crazy in the background, just nice and clean.

^+1.
I was going to ask if it could be rotated a teeny tiny bit counterclockwise (like 1-2*), but when I quickly did it, I preferred the car, but see your problem with the tilted trees in the background. What did you clone out on the right 3rd? Last edited by 05-rsx; 11-04-2012 at 10:51 PM. |

Operating System Web Browser and Version Monitor Model Etc... Here are the two images: SmugMug: Photobucket: And this is the type of comparison I'm looking for: Chrome Comparison (SmugMug vs. Photobucket): Firefox Comparison (SmugMug vs. Photobucket): ^In these comparison screenshots I think you should be able to see that there is a very obvious difference between the SmugMug and Photobucket uploads, which is seen on both Chrome and Firefox (on my desktop PC). When I view the same images on my laptop they look the same (on both browsers)! It appears to be some kind of combo issue with the desktop PC and SmugMug uploads. Quote:
