If I were not 'in the know' regarding the wonderful world of subarus, I would have long ago ditched my Outback and never ever recomended a subaru to anyone ever, ever again.

Why?

Gerald Jones Subaru in Augusta, GA.

The worst customer service in the world, inflated prices, horrible repair work, rude customer service managers, etc etc.

They have flat out lied to me, to my face, on numerous occasions and charged me for work that was never done. They trash the subaru reputation all the time and try to sell me an audii or Volvo every time I am there.

"Oh, all subarus have squeaky brakes, it's a design flaw. Volvo's on the other hand have this great braking system that will never squeak"

That was from the service manager.

Unfortunatly, unless I want to drive over an hour that is the only dealer I can go to.

I am thinking the drive is worth it though, going to try the place in Columbia for my 30k service.

2.5RRRRS - Are you dealing with Performance or Southern States? Just so I know who to avoid if my RS ever needs work.

Dude, threaten SoA with arbitration. They know what the Lemon Law is. If they think you are going to take them to court, they will have a new car waiting for you. Don't put up with a brand new car that has a rebuilt tranny, don't even settle for a new tranny. Tell them you want a new car or you will go to court. My parents just finished a fight with SoA over a bum Forester they bought. The thing was brand new (MY01) and the heads made a lot of noise. It was like a damned mariachi band! It was LOUD! And the tailgate didn't close well so it rattled. Well anyways, my parents fought them for 6 months. They were too nice about it for too long. Finally my dad said "we're going to court" And 5 days later SoA had a new 3.0L LL Bean Outback waiting for him (that's what he wanted.) SoA traded dollar for dollar, so my dad only had to pay the difference of the two cars. It's a shame it took that long, but sometimes you have to be a prick!

Good Luck!

How very disappointing. You would think rules of logic would tell them to do everything to accommodate the customer and it will return to them over and over again in referrals and more sales.

I wonder what the lemon law is in your state, that doesn't sound right for a transmission to go like that. I don't know if you said whether it was automatic or manual?

Thumbs down Subaru customer service rant...

My WRX has been sitting outside at the dealership for 11 days, and parts have been ordered, but they haven't arrived. It had a tranny failure at 2700 miles. I've talked to service advisors, dealership managers, customer sevice reps (Subaru 800 number), and lots of other people, but I got nowhere with them. I wanted a new tranny in my new car, but they are waiting for parts to REBUILD the one I have. They absolutely refused to consider putting a new one in for me. Rebuild price is ~$2000, new is ~$3500. This is ridiculous. I've been driving and buying Subies for years, and I haven't ever been treated like this. They have trated me like crap from day one of this ordeal. They only rebuild 1-2 trannies per YEAR at this dealership, according to the service advisor. They are replacing 1st and 2nd gears, and some other misc. parts, like syncros. I hope that it's done right, because I dont want to go through this again. Anyone here have experience w/ a rebuilt tranny from the dealership? Can I expect it to be like new again (reliability, durability)??

Check your PM, or am I too late?
Tell your dealer or SoA you want to make an appointment with the District Service Operations Manager. They have the final say over what any customer rep or Service Manager says.

Ouch. There are a number of good SOA contacts listed in previous posts. If you really want to complain to the right people, run a search . . .

Good luck - maybe your car will end up better than new?

First, let me say that I think that sucks, they should give you a new one on a car that young just as a matter of good customer service. But...

I am not sure if this applies to cars, but the fine print of most warranties gives the manufacurer the option of repairing or replacing at their option. If this is true, there is not much you can do. I am not sure if this will make you feel better on not, but a rebuild SHOULD be just as good as new. Some may say better, because it has effectively been Quality Controlled and visually inspected twice now. Good luck.
