Question STi stereo install question...

For those of you that got your STi without the stereo and added one later - did you have to buy any trim pieces to be able to accomodate the stereo? Did you have to cut what was there?

What did you do?

It slides right in without any trimming or cutting typically.

you might want some spacers for the speakers, depending on what you run.

And when you install remember to hook up the power antenna wire on the head unit harness to the corrsponding white wire pin on the car harness. This powers the rear window antenna.

It appears he has an 03, so no need for that I believe.

Does the trim around the dims need to be removed or will it slide in with the trim installed?

Yes you have to remove the factory trim and take out the 6 bolts holding the radio bracket in place.

the radio slot is a double DIN which means every DIN (german industry standard) sized head unit will bolt into the factory bracket with 4 bolts, youll just have to remove the aftermarket HU's faceplate trim bezel.

I installed type-s components in my doors from alpine. I was able to use the provided mounting plates, just modified them slightly with a dremel tool and drilled some new holes. I did the entire door install in about an hour.

In the rears i used alpine type-s 4" coaxials, no mounting brackets needed, i just turned them till all 4 holes lined up with metal and marked and drilled.

the entire install was very painless. I went with a 4 channel alpine amp mounted under the passenger seat to run the front doors and 1 8" sub in the trunk.
