Default Cobb Stage 2 Map With Perrin Intake?

Just seeing if anyone is running a Cobb Stage 2 map with a Perrin cold air. I have been running the cobb stage 1 map for a while now with the Perrin intake and the car runs great with no issues. Just seeing if it will act the same way when i install my tbe next week. I will eventually get a protune but for now i hope to be ok with just using the regular stage 2 map. Any input will help. Thanks.

Does Cobb make a Stage 2 Map for your car that specifies it can use a Perrin intake? The answer to this question is the answer to the one you're asking...

Ha no I fully understand what cobbs map notes mean however it is common knowledge that Perrins intake does not effect air/fuel ratios at all compared to the stock intake. I am running the stage 1 map with the Perrin intake now which is fine I just want to see if anyone else out there is doing the same with a stage 2 map.

It says on perrins website that thier intake wont cause an issue in stock form but if you have a stage 1 tune or higher that it will require a speical tune. This is a quote from their site

"FOR CLIENTS WITH RE-CALIBRATED ECU'S (REFLASH OR SIMILAR) , THIS INTAKE WILL REQUIRE CUSTOM PROGRAMMING DUE TO SLIGHT CHANGES IN AFR. PLEASE CONTACT OUR TECH DEPT FOR ADDL. DETAILS."

if you bought your intake off perrin they will email you the updated mapping to go with your intake and such.

Did you throw any codes? and like it says its a slight change in ARF's so you might have ran a little lean but it cant be as bad as stock map haha

No. No codes at all. I'm not that worried about it. It couldn't be as lean as the stock tune.

Cold air intakes affect more than just Air Fuel Ratio. Another very important factor is that they can cause the boost to over shoot its target. There is a reason you should have the car tuned for a specific intake and not run an OTS map.

Granted you have been lucky so far with Stage 1 map, and even this could be pure luck as you have no idea what your AFR is do you? But go stage 2, the air fuel ratio and boost error is ever greater. You have no wideband I presume? So now you will be over shooting your boost target, probably running lean, and not even realize it. You will be the next person posting in the Technical section that you have had catastrophic engine failure and don't know why.

I'm not judging, do what you want, its your car. But out of curiosity, why would you do something so careless and not even know if the car is running ok? Are you just hoping it wont break?

Hey Vince,

I just got an accessport and am looking to install it but want to do it correctly. I have a perrin CAI on my 2009 wrx and would like to know what map you ended up using and how to get my hands on it. From reading through these forums I don't want to use the OTS cobb maps that only support Cobb intake or AEM intake.

Thanks for the response.

If you bought the part from Perrin I believe you can get the tune free. I at least did several years ago so don't quote me on it now. Give Perrin a call.

I got a map from them as well and installed it. I'm stoked! I used to have a weird boost surge around 4500 RPMs and the tune completely fixed it. Power band is so nice and smooth now.
