"Hey,got change for gas?"

Default good place to take car for maintenance?

Hey everyone!

I'm new to the community and have already met some interesting people from the classifieds. Too bad i missed the pre-Christmas meet.

Anyways getting to my point... I have had my car for almost a month now and I need to get it maintained before it snows. I know from experience (with my old car) that each dealership is different. So i need some feedbacks as to which Subaru dealership is best to take my car to get its regular maintenance?

I live in Burnaby, around Metro so closer the better but not too much.

Customer service is KEY.
^ i don't want to schedule an appointment @ 10am and have to wait till 1pm for the job to be done.

Thanks.

I have always gone to Don Docksteader for my services. They are a bit more costly since they are a dealership, but every time I brought my car there for the regular maintenance (at 8am) they have been able to finish it by 9am, just in time for work.

The reason why I am okay with paying more is to get that little stamp in my service handbook, and to be on the good terms with the dealership so they would be more willing to help me out with any possible warranty issues.

+1 for Don Docksteader ...

Little story here:

I ordered 22B front calipers 4-pot for my used bugeyes 2005, but Japan shipped them without Brake pads housing and clips...So I went to different dealerships and did not know a thing... I talked to them the clips might be same as 06-07 WRX front brake (red 4-pot)...but no one cared about this, and all keep asking me how much I ordered from Japan, and kept telling me " NO Parts number = No help"

Finally I walked in Don Dock @ Marine + Cambie, I told them my thought, and the service and parts staff there said let us give a try!! ...
OK, so they brought my 22B 4 pot, jacked up a new 06 WRX on their show room, and took off the wheels, and compared and checked my 22B 4-Pot with the new 06 WRX front brake back and forth, and took about half hour, and Yes!! they said they should be the same...

Then they helped me to order a set of brake pad clips from Toronto in 2 days, hey man, itz only 10 bucks, and they are realli customer friendly and realli to help out...

Sorri for the long reading...

I have heard some good things with Don Docksteader... just wondering how much is 'a bit more costly'?

Yah, Don Docksteader has increased their prices by 1.5x from what I can tell. I wanted them to put in my axle back exhaust during my lunch break, and they wanted $230...WTF

That can't be right. That's quoting almost 3 hours.
Are you sure you just asked for the axle back exhaust to be installed?

Yes, I showed it to them, and asked to buy a new gasket as well. I know the gasket is less than $20. I have "heard" that they charge more for rush jobs, though I was not asking for a rush. Perhaps they thought my car is a USDM STI, and accordingly marked up the price, which is what my friend told me when he brought his USDM WRX in.

i think it all depends what you wannar do.

if its something small, oil change, air filter, change exhaust etc, i would say, any mechanic shops, or even diy. or if you are having trouble going under the car, rent a place that can jack it up, say, tuning spirit?

if its somthing big and warranty concerned, go to dealership and expect to pay more.

personally, i would diy according to the maintence book, see what i have to do at my current milage, just keep all the receipt if you are trying to prove to the buyer this is a well maintained car when you sell it in the future.

For axle back just do it yourself, it takes less than an hour to do.

For anything even REMOTELY warranty, I go to DD. Don't forget to ask for your 10% off at Dennys if you are waiting. I didn't know they did that till my parents told me about it after they got their first oil change there :P

Otherwise, yeah, 5 Zigen is the werd

use break bar, or even torque wrench...

if still cant loose the bolt, step on the bar.

if still not loosed, have your self stand on it, and one more people hold the socket, one more people step/kick the bar.

i am sure it would do the job right. at least that is what happened when i was trying to get my suspension out and those 19mm bolts are PITA to get them loose.

I'd never use a torque wrench as a breaker bar

For me, breaker bar = loosen; torque wrench = tighten.

I'm also about to get my maintenance done before the winter starts. Would you recommend DD or Richmond for servicing?
