Help! is this the "hesitation problem"?
I stsrted up my car this morning, and had a strange problem. I shifed it into drive (it's an automatic, shut up.) and stepped on the gas, and the car felt like it was stalling- It moved a bit forward, then slowed and lurched forward again. It then backfired, lurched forward again, and moved forward as usual. The car seemed to run fine after that.
It's a 2000 sedan, auto tranny, with about 7500 miles. Can any of you give me a clue here? what do I tell the dealer to look for? -Jason

Yes, that seems to happen my '99 Forester S once in a while. But its just when you start up and maybe start driving too soon. There have been lets of comments on Subaru sites. BUT...I'm getting better than 25mpg with all the settings just as they are. I'm not certain I want any adjustments tht may, as a consequence, change the mileage and overall performance.

I had that problem when I was running super rich in my 97 auto. I would consider the O2 sensor possibly as I have heard of the 2000's having alot of problems with them.

Are there any mods on the car? Cause I have a Blitz filter/Minnam intake with Blitz exhaust, and when I start driving in the morning when the car is cold, I get a weird lurch when the auto shifts up. I would say its normal having read somewhere here before about the car's warming up procedures.

Keiho- no under-the-hood mods, no.
Marius: :-P on you. I'll have my dealer look at it- it's strange- it didn't happen during this past 30-degree winter, but a nice 70-degrees day, and it does. strange. It figures, now that I'm up to almost 26 MPG. My first 6500 miles were a solid 24mpg. -Jason |
