Default The Auto-dim Mirror Connection

I have my V1 hardwired to the connector for the auto-dim mirror. I noticed that the 12v goes away when I'm in reverse. No big deal, but if I hook up a Homelink system I will need 12v when I'm backing up. Do one of the other pins have 12v when I'm in reverse?

You're using the wrong wire for your 12V.
The yellow/red wire is accessory 12V, that is the one you should connect to for your V1 and any other accessories.
The brown/yellow, which is what I assume you are now using, is actually connected to the reverse light switch and is used to un-dim the mirror when the car is put in reverse. You shouldn't use that wire to power anything.

Did you set the zone and perform a calibration? The procedure is in the owners manual.
Sometimes the compass may get "stuck" and constantly read the same direction, if this happens a calibration should fix it. I've had this happen a couple of times.

actually, to re-hijack the thread....a question here too. now...i can;t remember if it was like this before, but lemme explain....

a while back i had a remote start system installed on my 04 standard wrx. this model requires i neutral the car, leave the engine running and hit a "prepare" type button that leaves the ewngine running and when i get out and lock the doors, the car is set to remote start when needed providing the alarm doesn;t trigger. now...i have a self-dimming mirror in the car and i also have a good, dark tint on all my windows. when the auto-dim function is on, the mirror is basically too dark to see out of. if i turn it off, it's fine....

here's the problem....when i kill and remote start the engine.....the mirror turns back on. is this normal to have that reset (i didn't notice much before i got it installed) when starting and killing the car normally or is it in the new wiring connections for the remote? and...if it is normal, is there a way to permanently have it turn the auto-dim function off? lastly....is there enough of a constant power supply comin from the mirror connection to run, say...a radar detector? thanks in advance.

Yes it's normal for the mirror mode to reset to "on" when the accessory power is cycled. If you don't want the mirror to ever dim you need to disconnect the power and/or ground connection so it never turns on. Of course this will also kill the compass as well. If you want to have the compass operate w/o the dimming function, you can connect the terminal on the mirror that gets the reverse light signal to ground permanently, this will un-dim the mirror at all times. If you do this you MUST be sure the reverse wire is disconnected from the harness that plugs in to the mirror (in other words it must be disconnected from the vehicle wiring), otherwise your reverse lights will always be on.
Yes, there is sufficient current available from the mirror harness to operate a detector, this is a common tap point that is used for hardwire detector installations.

There's no blue wire in the mirror harness, where is that wire located?

are we talking about the connector on the back of the mirror, or the harness above the map lights?

I am referring to the harness in the headliner where the mirror plugs into. Apparently the colors of the wires in the harness attached to the mirror itself are different. As long as the blue wire is the accessory 12V and not the reverse light switch connection, that is the correct one to use.

Which fuse does the mirror harness connect to? I just checked the voltages in the plug (before looking on here to see which wire was which) and got 0 voltage on any of the wires. I'm wondering if I inadvertantly shorted the pins with the multimeter probe and blew a fuse?

It's an accessory fuse, the circuit will only show power with the key in the accessory or run position.

Its the cigarette lighter fuse on my car. I have three wires: yellow/red is 12v, black is ground and brown which is a ground, but not when the car is in reverse.

Looks like I blew the fuse. No power in lighter anymore either next time I'll just search instead of being too lazy to get out of the car...
