Default another nother cat thread...kitten help

i'm picking up a kitten tomorrow i'm pretty sure but i've never had a little one before. what do i need to do with him/tips for taking care?

i've got a 9 yr-old named the cheat, and i've read i shouldn't bring the kitten in before he's checked at the vet or petsmart in case it's sick.

anything else? is it better to get a boy or girl? i don't want it peeing everywhere. food/watering tips?

the cheat was like 7 when i picked him up so i just showed him the litter box and we were square

Well, you'd better be prepared.

1. the cheat won't like this new kitten steppin' on his territory, and will be sure to let you know in subtle ways...like marking the wall, etc.

2. Make sure the new kitty knows where the litter box is, and has good access to it and the water/food supply at all times.

3. Introduce the two when you have at least the weekend to stick around, and have nowhere to go. You don't want to come home to having to hunt down one or the other...

how old is the kitten? might want to think of crating it for awhile def at night

find out what the kitten knows i hope to eat somewhat solid food

and as Roo said you should worry more about the cheat peein than the kitten

well i got the cheat from a second chance type place and he lived in a room with like 20 other cats so i think he's used to other cats. granted this is his house now so there is the territorial issue.

i think the cheat is a boy, and i've heard that boy cats can get along better than girls. you're supposed to rub the new one in the litter box or something so they have the same smell.

i've never really seen the cheat pee on anything and he lives with a big dog now and lived with a couple dogs in the last house so i think he'll be ok.

oh also, how much does it typically cost to have a cat spayed/neutered and or normal shots they need.

and in some of these ads people say S/W any ideas what that means?

i think it can differ on place but i do know by me there are places that spay neuter cats for free....although i mean it does the job and did it fine but i woulda had my real vet do it now

update 12:21 pm central

i've always assumed because his previous name was max, that the cheat was a boy.

now i think he's a she on closer inspection. he's got no junk. at all.

I'm guessing S/W = shots and wormed

When you introduce the cats just be there, also make sure you have some type of arrangement to keep them seperated if need be. When I brought home my second kitten I kept him in the bathroom & extra empty bedroom at night and when I wasn't around (limit house damage)
