Default EGT Probe location? Gauge Question

I'm looking into a set of gauges that include an EGT gauge. On a stock wrx setup how is the egt temp read by the gauge? Does it replace the stock egt probe in the uppipe with a defi supplied probe?

Also does the STI uppipe have an egt probe like the wrx although it doesnt have a cat?

I'm looking to swap my wrx uppipe for an sti uppipe to maintain the stock look. How do I hook up the egt probe with that setup? Thanks.

You do not install the egt probe in the uppipe. You need to take off the passenger side of the manifold, drill it, and have a bung welded to it. Any exhaust shop can do this. I dont know if they carry the bung though. Normally people put the probe on cylinder 3. Do a search for egt install, there is a link in that thread to the scoobymods install instructions.

Just installed a Defi egt sensor myself. i wound up using the factory cast bung on the driver side manifold. Super easy to tap for 1/8 pipe ,then you can utilize the Defi supplied screw in bung. Besides the regular wrenches ull need ahole saw to make ahole in the heat shield for the protruding sensor/line. I also recommend getting new
gaskets before getting started! can anyone tell me what kind of readings they're
getting and what mods those temps correspond with i.e. race gas map so on and so on.
