Default Best tires for road racing?

What are the best tires for road racing that are not that hurtful on the wallet? What do you guys think. (size 235/40/17)

Does it have to be that exact size? what width rim are you mounting it on?

A few more details would be nice. Are they going on a separate set of wheels other than your street tires. If they are I'd go w/ an R-Compound tire. As far as R-Compounds go, the Toyo RA-1's are my favorite. A good street/track tire is the Bridgestone Pole Position SO-3. Another tire to check out are the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. Those come stock on the Carrera GT so they have to be somewhat decent.

I dont have to have that size I just want as wide as i can get. The rim is 17x7.5.

Never answered the question above- will you be changing tires at the track or running street tires? Makes a large difference n what tire to choose.

I would suggest getting a 225/45-17 Hoosier R3S04. Hoosiers are alot wider than your standard street tire and 235/40-17 minimum wheel width is 8.0"

So you want to know what is the WIDEST tire you can get? NOT what TYPE of tire to get.
