Default "brake" light on the gauge cluster wont turn off

well i have an 02 wrx and the brake light on the gauges comes on alot when im driving and turns off at various times... the hand brake isnt up for sure i dont know how to fix this issue..Also i dont know if this is stock or aftermarket but when i put my hand brake down daylight running lights come on. The DRL thing may be aftermarket. My 07 WRX did it, but my 04 STi does not, so I think it started on the 06/07 generation.

Check the pads as Scotty said. If they still have meat then your fluid needs to be topped off.

may not even have to do with brakes... alternator could be toast. on mine, the alt was burnt crispy and it put on the brake light after the battery fell below somewhere like 10volts. other cars do this too, like mitsubishi

it's not the alternator, when the battery and brake light come on then it's the alternator.

Check your brake pads (as the pads wear, the fluid level will drop in the resevoir) and if they are fine, check the system over carefully for leaks - brake fluid generally doesn't just go away...
