What gauges are required?
Hey all, I am going to be making improvements on my engine in the future and it was brought to my attention that I needed gauges to monitor the engine when adjusting turbo psi ect. What guages are a MUST and which come in second as a good to have. I've been looking at Greddy gauges since they match the lighting scheme of the car, but are they better gauges out there. Thanks, Chris

Boost would be the most important, EGT would be a really good idea, a knock sensor, and air/fuel... those would be my top four choices, probably in that order, but it depends on how far you're planning to tune the car. I'm using a Vishnu stage 0 and all I did was use a boost gauge to tune it, and now it sits in my glove box. I plan to add an EGT and knocklink before I go to stage 1, and air/fuel will probably come in the form of a SAFC at some point.
Just out of curiosity, which GReddy gauges did you find that matched the stock interior well? Edit: Bad spelling this early in the morning... |

The black faced gauges that illuminate green at night look good with the interior and gauge lights.

Boost, EGT and oil pressure.
the rest just go blinkey blinkey and won't tell you much,. i would personally skip the knocklink and A/F gauge...invest ina good datalogger instead |

I have 6 of the GReddy electronic gauges (black face) in my WRX and love them. In the A pillar I have (52mm) water temp, fuel pressure, and oil pressure. In the Defi gauge pod I have (60mm) boost, EGT, and air/fuel ratio. If I only had 3 gauge spots, I would choose boost, EGT, and oil something (in this case, something being either pressure or temp, depending on who you ask, in terms of which is more important). The air/fuel ratio gauge has probably been the most vexing of them all.

My impression of EGT readings is that it is a good way to help you keep the insides of your engine in good shape. In other words, if the EGTs are too high for any significant length in time, either you are pushing the car too hard, or something is wrong inside.
As it relates to oil pressure or oil temperature, it seems to be (for me) more of an important "just to be sure all is OK" kind of monitoring. I am sure somebody or bodies on the board here can give a more technical description of why EGT and oil are good things to monitor. I am not familiar with the brand of gauges in the link you posted. I know the GReddy gauges are some of the more expensive, but to me they seemed to be well worth it, from a long term perspective. Hopefully there will be some others here who can comment further. thanks for reply goodfinder
I'm looking for those gauges because I need to match my reverse indiglos. After all my search I only find 2 sites that actually make reverse indiglo boost gauges. Omori USA and that other website that I linked. does anyone know other companies that make reverse indiglo boost, egt and oil? btw I found this where the heck does that thing goes in the car?? the explaination is not very clear at all, either that or I just can't understand... Meter hood panel of carbon make. Boost meter and the like it is the range of vision characteristic which until now is not. Being also to be able to open and close the hood, sort you can use also the BOX until now. |

My silly 2 cents
Boost (important until car is finally tuned how you want it)
EGT (important until car is finally tuned how you want it) Time - use it everyday Outside temp - use it most everyday for a temporary gauge consider intercooler temp (ie if you are going to be changing out the intercooler this could be helpful). |

boost gauge
I currently have the stock boost gauge which measures up to 1.5 kPa, I was wondering if I should get a gauge like the Greddry that measures up to 2.0 kPA.
Also, does anyone know the conversion factor from kPa to PSI Thanks |

0.1 (mpa)= 1 bar
1 bar = 14.508 psi 1 atmosphere (atm)= 14.689 * psi by .00689 (ex) 14.2 * .0069 = .097 mpa |
