To his credit, you set yourself up for criticism by not saying what happened.

i do need to edit the title...
b/c of my anger (at the moment this happened), i rushed to judgement and i posted something i shouldn't have...people make mistakes and i'm acknowledging that now. the title should've read "took car to my dealership for an oil change, and due to a defective part, engine failure resulted..."
now if someone can tell me how that's done, i'll gladly do it. or i could just change the post to "supraru is a judgemental d bag..." - the latter sounds much better. Last edited by db97; 12-11-2012 at 06:05 PM. |

I never had good experiences at either Subaru dealership in the ville. There seems to be a void of subaru competency in that region.
Supraru is one serious post whore, I thought he was the OP for a second..... |

I'm really glad it was resolved and your faith is restored. I've seen it on Nasioc before (thus my suggesting you contact SOA) and it reaffirms why I keep staying with Subaru. Congrats.

there was no b'ing or moaning...i presented the facts in a fully documented manner...i was respectful to both the bachman service folks, and the soa rep. i simply presented this issue from my perspective...plain and simple. b/c of my past history with the dealership (as a loyal customer), and my desire to continue that relationship...the soa rep was able to offer an equitable solution to this mishap...i was happy, the dealership was happy...soa was happy to retain a valued customer. no bs involved...just the facts. Note: willing to bet he was asked to not post the resolution. You do that and it opens the door to every whiner with 'so and so on Nasioc got...'

So stop beating around the bush and tell us what SOA did for you. Are they putting a new engine in your car, or did they manage to convince you that your existing one was ok?
And just to back up some of what Supraru was saying, the dipsticks on these cars are designed to scare the crap out of you. Not anything to be proud of, but I've let my oil get low enough to not show on the dipstick several times on my 03 WRX over its life. It's burned oil pretty much since the day it was new, and I don't always check it religiously. When the oil level is down between 1.5 and 2.0 quarts, the dipstick will be bone dry. The only difference is that I can start to hear the lifters getting noisy when the oil is low enough. But the engine is still going strong at 145,000 miles. Just fill 'er up again and she's happy as a clam. Also, some of the other stuff like the white smoke, was from oil on the exhaust manifold. That makes for some horrendous smoke and pretty awful smell in the cabin, but doesn't necessarily indicate engine damage. I'd say one of two things happened. Either the dealership forgot to refill the car when they did the oil change, or they accidentally doubled up on the filter gasket and the oil blew out between the two gaskets once it got to full pressure. Since there was oil all over the bottom of the car when you brought it in, that pretty much rules out #1. And since the motor started up again when they added oil, I'd say that there wasn't any serious damage done. Yeah, it's pretty annoying when they screw something up, but that doesn't mean that SOA is going to bend over backwards and spend thousands of dollars just to make you happy. |

The one thing that gets me is the dealership saying that there is some sort of cut of mechanism and you even stated that is complete crap. If they try to hand you that kind of BS I would be very hesitant without a compression test, and oil analysis. I won't comment on your attitude and attacking him, or maybe I just did. |

That is not helping any. This forum has really gone downhill. We are supposed to be here to help and discuss.

Not all women. And some of us can even do things like change our own oil w/o breaking a nail! ;-). Anyway, lets stop with the personal attacks and just be glad that not once did someone throw that whole Magnus Moss thing out! Kind of miraculous if you read other threads is this area! I'm glad this one turned out well. Next?

Yeah you might want to have a mod delete this thread or change the title before that dealer finds out.
What most likely happened is the OP signed a document that doesn't allow him to disclose of what happened. If he did specific actions could occur. Who knows. |

Wow. Now this is very interesting. I logged in here after a lonnng time and believe it or not I had what could have been the exact same issue.
This specific dealership that the OP had a bad experience with changed my oil a couple months ago. I drove back home, and the next day I noticed a puddle of oil under my car. I checked the dipstick and the level was fine enough to drive, but clearly the oil filter was slowly bleeding oil. The dealership tightened whatever they needed to and off I go. They refused to give me any paperwork citing their error unfortunately. If I hadn't noticed the puddle my story could have very well turned out to be the same as the OP. I will never take my car for service at that dealership again unless I have a warranty concern. I now take my car to an independent shop in town for service. |
