try this...
get the car to 40mph in 2nd gear, then hold the brake and floor the gas so you build boost but the car stays at or close to 40mph, and then just let the brake go. it should help that 2nd to 3rd run go alot quicker and make more use of the lower gear. just be ready to shift once you let off the brake lol...may not go too fast in your car, but if you watch my video on the first page, you will see how fast it goes with higher whp. when you combo that with all 4 wheels breaking loose and getting tq steer, it can be a handful lol |

hard for me to tell the actual time on my work computers, but i would say that was roughly 5 sec...that is a VERY rough estimation though

I'm not really that interested in adding all of these random YouTube finds to the list.

This would be a 10 percent difference due to wind resistance, which is consistent with the 10 percent poorer gas mileage I get on the freeway when the box is on. What can I say? I'm a math teacher on summer break right now! |

Well I already have all of the cars (including stock from the other list) on a scatter plot with a linear fit . Power to weight is a pretty solid correlation, especially on something like this that doesn't factor in launching. With a 50-100mph time and an accurate weight you can calculate power pretty well (similar to trap speeds but without going to the track).

just fyi, on a mustang dyno my car put down over 500whp (also in airboy old and new as well as virtual dyno), and juan's car is putting down more than mine i am pretty sure. so whatever mustang dyno math you are using...i NEVER want to get on that HEARTBREAKER DYNO . unless i am racing someone for lotso cash...then i would use the "i only make 392whp" statement so i could race a slower car and win . |

Not too many cars can do what mine can do -- pull well from 50-100 in a single gear. I suggest we redo this thing all using a single gear pull in a reasonable range -- say, 60-90mph. 3rd in a WRX, 4th in an STi, perhaps. |

^ this would be a really great way to gauge subaru vs. subaru or show what X whp would do to acceleration times, but comparing subaru vs. X is going to be null and void using a 60-90mph pull.
BUT...i bet 60-100mph pulls would be ridiculously fast since the bigger turbos could actually get decent boost starting at 60mph which means they wouldn't have to start in 2nd. i know my car was able to build almost full boost in 3rd by 60mph if i brake boosted. if i didn't have to shift or deal with wheel spin at the top of 2nd, my time would be REALLY good. |

Yeah, the gear for gear thing seems good but it's only really useful when comparing within the same transmission. I wanted something that can be compared across platforms. 60-130 really seems like the best option, but the drawback is that it would take miles to do on a 300WHP car. 50-100 was supposed to be slow enough to be easily attainable but fast enough to give consistent results. It may favor some gearing/powerband combos though.

Anyways on my 4.5 seconds 50-100mph I only made 440whp VD dynojet, 400whp Airboy. That was with about 27psi, 11.6 AFR, 13* of timing at peak torque and 19* of timing at redline 7500rpm. I am a little disappointed with my whp numbers but the run was done in 100* F + I am hopping that when it cools down to gain a lot whp and I may consider raising the timing. Although some people like Crystal would said that I am running to much timing already, while others like Junior, Ron, and Ed will advice me to raise it a little. Dave, I think your estimates are way too low, I would said that my car would make 400whp on a mustang dyno and trap 130mph. |

i can't believe you only put down 440whp on VD dynojet setting...thats like 100whp less than i made with the dynojet setting, and your turbo is bigger than mine plus you have cams. i put down like 560whp/530wtq on VD dynojet setting, and my boost was at 29psi tapering to 26psi, 11.7 AFR, and 19* timing at peak and 25-26* timing at redline 7500rpm (can't remember off the top of my head right now and work computers won't let me see the graphs to tell you actual numbers).
here are the graphs i posted a while back in the e85 army thread... Quote:

btw, i know you know this already, but you are SUPER lean during boost buildup and that timing is pretty low for E85. thats pretty much 93oct timing. i mean, thats close to what i was running on 93oct and i have over 9.5:1CR. obviously, there is no "magic number" for timing, but i doubt you are at MBT with it where its at...i bet you pick up quite a bit of power across the board by richening things up some and increasing timing a few degrees. its possible...i am a fan of giving the car what it wants and not what you think it should have (obviously within reason)...i mean, look at the ej207's timing...25* at peak and 38* at redline on the stock v8 maps.
on the opposite end of the spectrum, i know someone who is only able to run 9* at peak and 18* at redline with a 2.5L 18g setup running 20psi. with boost at 17psi and timing a couple degrees higher, the power was actually slightly lower, and the car would knock with even the slightest bit of heatsoak so...sometimes cars just don't like timing and sometimes they do. thats the beauty of e85. it allows the tuner to actually hit MBT. its pretty blatant when the car hits it because you go from making like 10ftlbs from every degree to only making like 2ftlbs with every degree. |
