Default FWD Fuse = Subaru Appreciation Fuse

Its raining out today and I thought I would go and play with FWD to see if there was a big difference between AWD and FWD in these cars ( ... Duh yes I knew there would be a HUGE difference).

My God...I will never own another FWD car again. On the same set of S Curves I went down in FWD twice so I could feel where the car was loose and where it was ok... It was ****ing all over the place.. all it was, was 2 wheels spinning infront of the car and the car was drifitng where it wanted to go... On everyy launch it was a 10 sec burnout...

in AWD mode, it was like it was a sunny dry pavement day. I LOVE SUBARU! Besides for it allowing a bit more agressive driving, these cars are SO ****ing stable in AWD mode on wet pavement!

The FWD Fuse should be renamed = the AWD appreciation fuse, or Subaru Appreciation fuse.

If you have any doubts as to how nice of an awd system we got, just play with that fuse.

Yeah, what he said.

FWD fuse will make you appreciate the subaru.

Also if you ever go drive a higher powered FWD or RWD car you will miss the AWD (but love the power). Whenever I end up driving my dad's SLEV6 Toyota Solara coupe I almost always spin the front tires trying to accelerate from a stop.

I'm just so used to be able to mash the throttle without getting wheelspin that it takes me awhile to get used to only have 2 powered wheels.

Default My tires SUCK!!!!!

Tried it tonight for the first time, probably 2 drops of rain on the road, I drove normally, squeeled my tires on every corner. Couldn't believe it.

Just driving in FWD out of my parking lot slowly I could tell the car just felt like a front pulling car Vs the ballanced power that the AWD feels like. I wish there was a RWD fuse... or a way to lock the center diff to 100% rear.

I just wish we got the same 50/50 default split that the 5 speeds do. I HATE it when I chirp the front tires at a start until the AWD kicks up the power to the rears.

Yeah yeah I know, I should start in 1st gear if I want a 50/50 split. It is just that when the shift level is in 1, it accelerates slower than if I had it in D and simply mashed the pedal.

well keep in mind had the car been designed as FWD to begin with, it would do a good bit better than one set up to perform as an AWD car

but FWD is still p00p

It will only work on the Automatic 4EATs. I agree about the rear wheel drive thing though that would be so fun, especially if we had some sort of dial in the car to be able to adjust it.

The morons where I bought my car from said I had the fwd fuse option. Guess not. That just makes one more thing they lied about. Another was that they made a ram air scoop kit for the impreza.........

Hello every1,

I tried the FWD option by putting a 20 amp fuse in the slot on my 97 legacy l. I took it on dirt and spun the tires too easily. I'm wondering if keeping the fuse there will hurt the tranny of the awd system. See the idea crossed my mind that maybe I could save gas if I kept it in fwd. What are your ideas on that?

I did the same thing today right when it started raining. I popped in a 20 amp fuse, and waited for the right moment,

I was at a red light when it turned green i gunned it, (there was no traffic or people anywhere near me)
man it must have taken a good 5 seconds for the tires to grab the road. I have officially be spoiled by Subaru AWD i also tried whipping it hard around a few turns, all i can say is WOW!! What a difference! and its not just AWD in general, it's Subaru's symmetrical system. cause I drove a 98 caravan with AWD and it felt pretty good, better than any minivan, but not this good, and not this sure footed. i pulled over and pulled out that fuse, and it was like the pavement was bone dry, as if it werent even raining, I slam down on the pedal and the car just yanks forward, even on freshly rained pavement.

Subaru For Life. and yes it should be named the "Subaru Appreciation Fuse".

those of you who haven't tried it yet should try it, just make sure theres little to no traffic and no people standing around.

Now this is a good point... I haven't had to find this out yet, but I was wondering how the differentials would handle the variance in tire size with the spare tire. I've seen the little "FWD" fuse holder under the hood, but didn't really know what it did, and I don't have the owner's manual. Now I know what it's for...

BTW: My first real exposure to the AWD system was sliding a Forester around a parking lot in the snow... now I'm sad that it probably won't snow here again this year...

FWD on anything other than a STI is powered through an open diff. it makes sense that you spun tire for 10 seconds in the rain before moving, you were only sending power to one wheel.
