Dream Conversions
So I was just reading around the interwebs and saw some dude put a V8 into a Bug-eye wrx, and that gave me an idea for a fun little thread! If you had a large (But somewhat realistic) amount of money, what engine would you swap into your subaru? Personally I would put the 3.6L Flat six from the Porsche 996, how about you?

Why would you do a Porsche H6 vice a subaru H6? The new subaru H6 is probably cheaper and easier- you might even be able to retain your current transmission.
I think I would like to get an old subaru coupe with a Sti swap. Something like a BRZ except AWD, less road friendly, and more track ready. |

RWD or AWD? The RWD ones are more common and I am not sure if AWD nets you much in that configuration (besides being unique, heavy, and a bit more expensive- the handling is probably not that much better dues to weight placement).

I am rear wheel drive using a Porsche 930 transaxle. We lengthened the rear trailing arms two inches over stock and moved the front axle line forward two inches to move more engine trans weight to center. Should handle pretty well. There is a build thread on this Conversion Forum. We should be able to post engine/turbo/AWIC/modified STi manifold soon.

Bear with me here, mine is a highly attainable albei very strange conversion.
I want to build a 97 Legacy Outback wagon LL-Bean edition. Yes, I know it never existed. Plan is SVX engine with full working AC (including climate control) with a complete tan / brown interior. Suspension would be load leveling from a Forester LL Bean which would maintain the original ride height. Strange, yes, but it's an idea that has been brewing in my head for a long time. That and a white STI V4 RA, completely pristine and show room stock. |

I think I would rather have a turbocharged 3800 series (from the reading the fastest fieros are gm 3800 series, and they have ls fieros out there). Is the Ej25 said just because this is a subaru site? Or is there an advantage that I am missing (besides weight/fuel economy)? An EJ25 in a boxster (that was one of the unlucky ones whose OEM engine destroyed itself) would be pretty cool, too. |

Dream conversion:
Convert my 2004 Outback H6 LLBean to an S401 wagon. 6MT, full S401 body kit all around, repaint to WRB, and BBS RE's. Only thing that I would retain would be the EZ30D, and I would modify that with a twin-scroll turbo setup and forged internals. Would then proceed to throw on some AST 4100 coilovers (if they fit), some AP Racing brakes, some extra chassis bracing, and some 2008+ STI front seats reupholstered in tan leather to match the rest of the interior. Would finish off with an iPad mounted in the dash, MightyCarMods style. |

Would also love to drop an IS-F V8 + 6-speed manual into a BRZ.
Finish off with a Rocket Bunny kit. |

If we are talking about somewhat realistic budgets, only one thing comes to my mind.
Audi inline 5 24V turbo engine into WRX or GC8. The best sounding engine ever!! I wish aftermarket parts, engines, and know-how would be more available in US just like in Europe. Only reasonable option here is 2JZ. |

^^^^ that is actually VERY simple to do, well not simple but very possible. theres a audi Quattro replica in austrailia with a wrx frame/driveline and the inline 5 motor its sweet.
id love an I5 in my car and imo easier than a 2j and able to keep awd. and the aftermarket while little to none, again wouldn't be a huge deal. just a decent amount of custom work. dream swap, awd 2j in my wrx. 2j rwd in my wrx, h6 turbo in my wrx. |

I saw that Audi with WRX driveline.
Don't get me wrong,it is fairly simple especially if you have access to fabricating tools, space, and fabricating skills. But after all I would say it would be at least 2x more expensive than 2JZ swap into some uncommon car. I have pretty good idea about it because I was considering either i5 24v or 2JZ into some more modern audi or bmw body for my next car. Considering my lack of big budget I think I'll go with 2JZ. I wanted best of both worlds for a daily driver(so no crappy, noisy, basic interiors and better looks). If I wanted a raw weekend toy I would go with Audi CQ and just swap a built AAN or 3B with BIG turbo. CQ's come with inline 5's just without the turbo so it would be easy fit and electrical harness would require little to no modifications. That could be done for $10k easy Audi S2(U.S CQ) Last edited by manys; 03-23-2013 at 04:54 PM. |
