Does anyone know how to then the reverse camera lines off for the head unit? I have the 4.3" and have already turned off loud and equalizer but cannot find the lines anywhere. I have two sets, one from the head unit and one from the camera and they are both annoying.

I'd recommend disabling the cameras lines. There is a thread on here by svxdc that can walk you through it. Silverbear links to it in his tutorial

So after 2 years of hating my HU, I did the hack to get THROUGH MODE, turned LOUDNESS off, as well as SRS. Now, I love my HU. It's the PE669U1 base unit (in a 2013 Legacy), but wow! Total improvement, like a major upgrade. Thanks for the info.

I really appreciate this thread, but in the end $99 aftermarket HU is superior. Even with stock speakers.

I've never experienced such a crappy stock HU in my life.

I agree that Subaru has been putting some stunningly bad base sound systems in its cars in recent years, but for some of us, the ideas in this thread are potentially more valuable than an equipment upgrade. Either because it represents a free improvement, or because we like the factory look of the built-in head unit. Maybe some other reasons too that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

As somebody who values sound quality, I would generally step up to a better optional sound system when buying a car if possible. Problem is, with my 2010 Impreza GT, there was no option. But using Through Mode and letting my iPod do the EQing is such an improvement it's almost like an upgrade.

I'm liking the current WRX and STI and appreciating that a factory audio upgrade is finally available. Although, I can't help remember how the 2006 WRX and STI came standard with what they called "premium" audio and while it seemed "adequate" to me at the time, in retrospect it was actually quite good compared to Subaru's recent standard sound systems.

I think many people forget that the original STI's and IIRC the WRX as well didn't even come with a stereo.

I have the HK unit in the 2015 STI Limited and it is an impressive jump for Subaru but the usability of the unit is atrocious. I can't understand why they go out of their way to make it difficult.

Thinking seriously about installing a nex8100 and threads like this one are a great help. Thanks to all the contributors!

The WRX has always come with a stereo in the U.S. at least (even the TR sedan), but you're correct that the STI did not for the first year or two it was on sale here. Fortunately they quickly remedied that practice. Seems to me they underestimated the breadth of the STI's target demographic at first.

Less fortunate is that those sound systems have varied quite a bit in quality over the years. The best one I've heard in any WRX/STI was the 140-watt unit in the 2006. Subaru called it "premium" and in retrospect I have to say it was pretty decent, especially compared to the one in my 2010 2.5GT.

I've yet to hear the Harman Kardon in the 2015 WRX/STI and I've been hoping it's as impressive as you indicate.

Default Life Saving

I drove around continuously messing with my stereo controls, becoming increasingly disappointed... a danger to everyone in my sight.

Y'all have saved lives here.

I spent some time hacking the menu & then setting up the sound. Though it's not amaze-balls, it's free and just might do the trick until I'm ready to put extra money into a vehicle I just purchased.

THANK YOU!

How do I do this if I have the nav headunit? I see some EQ settings on the screen but no matter what I do the sound is still very bad.

You replace the NAV headunit with a better unit.

I've been driving around for almost two years hattttting the stereo in my 11'wrx. I love a great sounding system for all sorts of music. Performance parts come before stereo parts and this will hold me over for sometime. Thank you for saving me a few hundred in upgrading. Free-fitty-free!

I appreciate the info on the "hidden feature". But seriously... it's about as much an improvement as the "sport mode" button on a Toyota Prius is.

My 2013 Impreza Sport Limited has the CM631UD head unit. I found directions on the xv Crosstrek forum to turn off the equilizeroff and loudness as it differs than what I've seen posted in this thread.

Yes. This thread is only bout the premium, not the sport. The cm631ud has a LCD display. You'd likely just hold 6 while spinning the tune wheel like on the cp635u1.

Default no voice prompts

Not sure if there is hidden menu for this but I have exhausted all other avenues. My 2014 G4 Impreza has no voice prompts....but I can set the level for voice but there are none. At same time I can record phone list name and other names but the voice system ignores all attempts to use the voice command system....any ideas?

Default Clarion Head Unit Manual

You may be able to get a proper H/U manual from below:

1. Get the Clarion Part Number of the Headunit. As mentioned it's usually on a sticker on the H/U. It's the easiest way..

2. If you can't pull the thing out, just try and find a exact unit on ebay (or similar) that a dismantler/wrecker/salvage yard may have. Often they will have pictures of the H/U with the sticker shown (that's how I found mine...)

2. Next try this site: https://fccid.io/search.php
Input the Clarion Part #. I was lucky here as the H/U Part # was listed (I was after an Australian H/U, but was nearly the same/very similar specification as the Nth American unit)

Most of the Manual's contents are same as the factory Subaru Owner's Manual stuff, but with additional bits & pieces, such as 'hidden' menu's.

HTH..

So, your connection to steering wheel controls is definitely good? All your stereo controls work?

I know its not the answer you want, but the voice control is weak anyway :/ ..." Call Stacy" was open interpretted as "phone book"...and since it doesn't support sns text, I might recommend you program the speed dial and stick with that.

Might be worth a solid reset to factory settings and try again?
