Default Results of The Old Roads Rally

Well, thanks to the publicity created by Crowbar, we had one Subaru for every other car there. The beauty of Subaru AWD was apparent as we lined up to the start, and people were gawking. Who's in that blue wagon??

Oh, there were four blue WRX wagons!!!!!

I'll try to post pictures later, of the line of Subaru's.

Scott will probably have some video, and news at 11:00........a.m. that is, after he wakes up!!!!

Well?.....

I guess I'm not the only one to crash out, upon getting home. ;-)
Great roads, some interesting legs, and a couple that weren't ready for prime time. (Which I found out at the end were rewritten after the pre-check.)

all part of the challenge, right? we all had the same maps and took the same route. therefore, we all had the same challenge (in our respective classes - novice, intermediate, and expert). i do not feel it's fair that that porsche guy who got 2 points on the whole rallye was allowed to run novice, when he had much experience with rallyes in other groups other than ITN. but that's all part of the game.

This rallye was great. I had so much fun. I was all 1's and 0's till #4, and went downhill form there. We figured it out before #10, and ended with 1's and 0's. Next time we'll pay more attention after gas stops, so we dont end up 20 miles off course again. I think we still ended up placing somewhere in the middle, and we only missed 1 checkpoint. Great way to spend a long day.

And thank you Irvine Subaru and SPI Motorsports for making our entrance possible. More than 3 hours of video are soon to be available.

This was a VERY fun rally. I had an awesome time! We got to see some beautiful countryside, as well as driving some challenging roads. I would venture to say that there were a good 4 hours of quality canyon running. If I had it to do over again, I would have run my Falken Azenis rather than the Kumho Ecstra 712s, maybe next time.

I was really happy to see such a good Subaru turnout, much better than I had expected. It was nice meeting new drivers as well. Hope to see you guys at the HUGE 14hr rally in November.

I wasn't writing them down. However Sue Kelso & Alan Bell of TRC were second Expert with a blue WRX with a 506.

They really are fairly new to rallying, and ITN does not count any other timed rallye styles like TSD as experience for classing, (and they are probably still considered Novice in TSDs). They have some experience but they aren't anywhere near Expert level. I looked at ITNs results and I don't think they have run any for a year or two. However I think they wrote a Pan Am style rallye themselves last year in San Diego. Sitting down and laying out a rallye probably gives you about 5 rallyes worth of experience, and may very well take a lot longer to do ;-) There is also a big difference in running Novice class with just your wristwatch, and running Novice with rallye computer and/or Paul McGaffey's Monaco Clock.

Cool Congratulations all

I want to take this time to thank all of the Subaru's that turned out for this event. I hope that you all had a lot of fun, and that I will see you bringing others (even non-FHI vehicles) to future events.

Those canyons after dark were very interesting, and I want to thank the Mitsu who flew down the mountain with me for keeping me apprised of the corners!! Too bad I accidentally ran him over .

I have to download my camera, and will be posting some pictures, unless someone beats me to it.......(Crowbar??)

well they did an awesome job. 2 points is excellent, especially for that course. however, they had a porsche so they were not eligible for the subaru class.

of course, i made up the subaru class, so i don't know how official that is. i guess they could come back and say that it's not actually a subaru class, but a boxer engine class. in that case, they are still the winners.

It usually takes a few weeks for Joe to get around to it. A little nagging to [email protected] couldn't hurt ;-)

Default Results now up on ITN web site

Over the weekend Joe got around to posting the results from The Old Roads. Go to http://carzero.freeservers.com/ and click on the results link. I can't believe we had the lowest expert score on leg 5, the minimum speed leg, .03 late! We were about one minute late when we turned on the checkpoint road, and cross the line doing about twice the minimum speed. ;-)

Bill

P.S. Hope to see all of you on Into The Night '02, Nov. 15-17.

Everytime ITN does a minimum speed leg, they get complaints! But Joe can't seem to go more than two years without trying it again.;-) Most of the time it's not mileaged accurately enough to get a good score. I heard complaints again that the CP wasn't at the right mileage. This time, I don't know for sure since the odometer imput fell off earlier in the leg, but it seemed long on the stock odo.

WHOOOOO i got 5th place. Next time i'm gonna shoot for hitting every single checkpoint, and hopefully hitting them with less than 100 points. That was soo fun, and i cant believe i beat a few people.

Default Congratulations Chri3

Congratulations!!

I'm happy to see that you came out, and had a lot of fun. We really hope to see you on this next rally, and look forward to you bringing some friends.(Even non-Subaru)

The more people that attend, the better the rally gets. Seeing people going one way, while you're going the other, wondering if you are going in the right direction makes for a challenge. That's why we fell into the trap of going the wrong way during leg 10, and wound up with a MAX.

I hope all the Subaru's that attended bring at least one more Subaru along, and maybe even bring more cars.

Have a good time, and here's lookin' at zeros.
