Journey to Texas. Pcsing
Well i got my assignment today and in October i will be driving out of here to Dyess Afb, Texas.
Any advice about the drive through Canada would be awesome. What octane gas they have? Best places to stop for it? I plan on bringing a few cans of 90oct in case. Full spare tire. Some tools. Any info would be great! 4yrs was a long time here! Love the some and parts of the winter! Trying to drive to anchorage end of thisonth maybe! Possible dyno on the car as well! Kevin

Don't worry about octane, once you leave Alaska its all better from there. I would take your time through AK, Canada and go through CO, once you pass the mountains in CO that's all she wrote. Flatass land for the rest of your time.
Really, have fun and see all the sights on the way down. We drove from FL and loved it, even with 2 kids, luggage, a cooler and a stroller crammed into my trunk. |

Do you have a passport for everyone traveling?
Any child custody issues to think about with your daughter? |

My kid flys back home next week. I dont need a passport on orders and my GF has a passport. So no worries about getting through.
Fillg up with 94 could cause some knock tho right? I know i will need a retune once i get to use it 24/7. Kid has a passport from coming up here. |

Dyess!? Oh geez my condolences! Or is that a good thing?
Passport but you should be able to get a NO-Fee one through the MPF. You NEED a passport I almost got turned away at the border with orders and a MIL id when I PCSed here from Tyndall. |

You get a set amount of money for the move per your weight and distance traveled. Gas and moving supplies can be totaled up and used to reduce the amount of money that is taxed but they aren't technically giving you extra money to cover that expense. You'll just get a fraction of it back in reduced taxes. Overall, the less you spend on gas and moving supplies the more money you pocket from the move.

I know how it works. You dont really make anything at all when moving to or from Alaska. Not like you did a few years back when you could bock 5+ thousand dollars off the move.

Its true they changed how they calculate the amount. If I did my move a few years ago under the old way it would have been about $26,000 for the move alone. That was for a separation move. A regular PCS would be even better with the dislocation allowance. |
