Default My initial Stage 3 results

I recently installed the TurboXS stage 3 map on my car and have started the process of making a closed loop boost map to go with it. I'm having a bit of a problem with a few knock issues and I'm only reaching a peak boost of 16psi. Here is a log of the event

Im working the boost up slowly to the 17psi target trying to make sure I dont get any additional knock events, I think my boost levels are close to where i want them from 4000 rpms and up.

Could anyone that has a stage 3 running the open loop post a log or two so I can make some comparisons. I've already added a bit more fuel in the trouble spot, later today I'm going to try and do another run and see if the knock goes away.

The car is a blast to drive with this configuration, 2nd gear corners can quickly become an awd drift if you really get on it

Here you go. Can you post some of your log information above 5000 rpms. I am curious as to what IDC's you are getting at that range. If you'll notice my injectors appear to want to stay open all the time and I'm concerned about that.

I'll post a more complete log tomorrow but from the data that I have so far i'm hitting about 91-93% duty cycle at 6000 rpm.

Looks like you should adjust your throttle position reading on the utec a little bit.

Tuca33: Calibration is really easy. I don't know the steps off hand but it takes about 2 seconds. The instruction for the Utec include it. I think it's under User Constants but I forget.

Yah it was pretty straight forward. If you go into "Parameter Constants" from the edit maps page, then go to "Special Constants" You will see TPS Minimum Value and TPS Maximum Value. You need to adjust your TPS Maximum value. Keep in mind it's the volts paramet you are changing. I think mine was set to 4. I decreased it slightly to 3.9 and it was calibrated after that. Here are the instructions.

"6. TPS Minimum Value for Mapping is used to calibrate the TPS sensor. Modify the value so that the TPS value on the Dashboard reads 0% when the throttle is not being touched.
7. TPS Maximum Value for Mapping is used to calibrate the TPS sensor. Modify the value so that the TPS value reads 100% when the throttle is fully depressed. You can do this using the Dashboard with the key in and in the ‘ON’ position but the car off. Fully depress the throttle and make modify the voltage value until it reads 100% at WOT."

When I went into dashboard with the engine OFF and the ignition set to ON then fully depressed the gas pedal my reading was 95%. You'll probably see the same or close to it. That's what you are trying to set to 100%

It also helps to set you maximum MAP pressure also under parameter constants. That way you will hit the 100 block instead of the 80 or 90 under full boost WOT. This allows for more control of the engine because of the smaller increments. I believe stock the Utec is set for 18psi. Just a touch high.

yea i think right now i have mine set at 15psi. I hit peak boost of around 16.5psi near 3k, and it holds it all the way until around 5.5k then it falls to around 13 near 6.5k area.

btw this is stage II base map, modified by adding another 1 degree of advance across the board, not a single knock event so far. Im using a Blitz Spec-s boost controller. Other mods include ExhaustDepot catless uppipe, ExhaustDepot stg II Catless downpipe which mate up to stock cat-back, eliminating both cats utilizing 3" mandrel bent piping, and a samco i/c hose(whooptie). Anyhow i'm running the stage II map modified a little bit without having the cat-back portion of the setup, and still no knock. The car is amazingly quiet and equally quick. A Greddy Evo catback is next on my list, unless i decide to go with a vishnu topmount....not sure if i want to lose that nice quiet stealth aspect just quite yet. Anyhow great thread nice to see other's logs.

How do I do this? I rarely see 100 block in my logs

Davenow,

If you are referring to 100 MAP colume in 2 dimensional UTEC map-colume, you would see it in your log if you have 18<psi assuming that you have not altered the constants setting.

I believe this columes are primarily used to avoid knock that can be caused by boost spikes...(for TXS stage 1 - 4) Or if I stepped on the gas on 5th gear and some how exceeded the 18 psi... (Which I have yet to experience with closed loop).

If you look at stage3 map from TXS, that would be the reason why they have entered ridiculously high number for fuel and low number for timing & boost to avoid any knock..

Another word of saying, your UTEC is working as expected... unless you are running stage4 you should not see 100 in MAP from your logging..

Dan from PA.

Davenow: In the one of the constants is a a row to set min and max MAP pressure. I set my max at 17 psi since theoretically that is the highest pressure I should see. It makes sense to me anyway to reset the number to your personal number so that the columns each control a slightly lower amount of the curve so a more accurate map can be created.

Also in the manual right underneath the TPS instr. are the map calibration instr. You just take some logs with logger 4 and throw those numbers in a basic equation and reset the MAP cal. numbers.

Stock is something like 204/244. My calibration came up with 194/225. This helped smooth out the boost because now the Utec better understands the readings it is recieving and can act more accordingly to them.

I do need to taper my boost off towards the high end per Turbo XS's ideal boost levels. I just haven't had time. I'll post a map sometime within a couple days.

Default OK another question

I leaned the fuel map at the 100% position from like 5200 to redline and I get no knock, so far so good. I went .1 less than the stock stage 3 map (so 1.5 is now 1.4 etc)
Should I go another .1? should I take .1 off right through the meat of the powerband? (2500-4500)
OR should I add a degree of timing? What would be most effective/safest? how much do you modify at a time?

Guys here's my log from yesterday. About 35 F, with 93 oct winter fuel in 4th gear on a fairly level road. As you can see I'm running my injectors static but STis are coming. I'm going to a dyno soon so I'm not doing any real tuning just making the car so that it doesn't knock.
