Default ECO-FRIENDLY Downpipes

Hi There,

I'm looking on doing some exhaust mods. Mainly, catless uppipe, SPT exhaust and hi flow down pipe.

I was wondering if anyone had any problems with emissions testing? I don't want to be swapping out my downpipe before each test, any reccomendations on an ECO-FRIENDLY setup that would still maximize performance.

Thanks

Try using a hi-flow catted downpipe setup with a Cobb AP.

Any high flow cat will be fine for emissions.

do you really want to be "ECO-FRIENDLY" or do you just want to pass emissions test? I don't know how it is in Toronto but in Ohio you can pretty much be catless and still pass as long as you get around your check engine lights with something like the Cobb AP or other fix.

There's lots of info here about what setups are "truly emissions legal":
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1364415
These guys can't technically work around the CEL's to be classified STX so they need to find setups that won't actually trigger them.

Best "ECO-FRIENDLY" solution would be to not drive a car at all.

Choices are:
  • Leave it stock
  • Buy an aftermarket catted downpipe
  • Buy an aftermarket noncatted downpipe

There really isn't one aftermarket brand that is more "ECO-FRIENDLY" than another, we are talking about car exhaust.

You guys are jerks. Try to help the guy out instead of posting crap about how cats=lame and catless=FTW!!11!!11.

To the OP. Try to get a downpipe that still has one high flow cat in it, like the cobb or the maddad one piece, since those are long downpipes and replace the 3rd cat with just a simple pipe. Or you can get a shorty DP with a cat like the maddad v2 two piece. That way you get a high flow cat close to the turbo where it matters and you can leave the stock 3rd cat in place for emmisions and less worry about CELs.

^^^ - I agree - especially about the immature post whoring...

A high flow cat of any kind is better than nothing...

thanks for the recommendation! I think I'm gonna go with cobb dp (catted)... i've been hearing good things about the reliability and performance gains with cobb stage 2.. this needs to be a daily driver so I don't want to be swapping downpipes every emissions test...

I don't know how others are running their daily drivers catless without getting there cars impounded.. risking losing my car is not worth an extra 5 hp and saving 2 hundred bucks...

helix catted DP over here as well.

The ones that run catless on their DD's live in states that don't have emissions testing.

Anyway, it's a misnomer about the amount of power you lose by running one modern hi-flo cat anyway. Being at least mindful of the environment by sacrificing 2-4hp is ok in my book.

Ha i live in a state that has the WORST emissions, ca, i'm still going to run catless....just when smog time comes around i'll throw the stocker back on and reflash the ecu to stock and bam pass emissions with no issues.

I have a Cobb Stage 2 with Helix Hi-flow downpipe. Passed the Ontario emissions testing (DriveClean) without any issues. Since we are 4wd we are only required to run a curb side idle test.
