Default eco friendly grocery bags?

Okay, so being that I hate plastic bags when I go shopping, and inevitably when they use the plastic bags at these places they love to put one item in each bag, so you end up with 15 bags when you leave the store.

I'm looking for alternatives.

I like colapsability, so that I could keep the bags in a drawer or some other small place when not in use.

I'm not above paying someone's wife to crochet me some bags, so long as the color is poop brown or something manly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why not pickup some cloth reusable ones at HEB/Central Market? I think they are pretty cheap.

I never remember to get the reuse bags before I go to the store, and usually just ask for paper. They have no problem filling up the paper bags to the top.

The store I used to work at through college offers bags you can reuse (they are a fabric/cloth material they also offer insulated bags). Your local supermarket should have them. They are sold for 99 cents and for each one you have when you check out they take 5 cents off per bag on every time you use them. So they pay for themselves after a bit.

The Randalls you shop at and the Kroger down West Gray both sell bags for $1 each in the line to check out. They hold lots of food and fold flat. And they are black so you look like a real man.

Wrong, if more people are like you the oil companies will have a drop off in plastic revenue and will have to make up the lost revenue through higher gas prices. Stop being a tree hugger.

O rly? I thought there was going to be a lack of plastic bags for a couple of months because the plastic bag company in Channelview burn down this weekend.

I remember back in the early eighties when plastic bags were supposed to be the eco friendly alternative to paper bags. (saved trees)

maybe I'm going at the wrong time of day.

or maybe I'm distracted by the high prices for kinds of cheese I didn't want to know existed.

+1 great ways to reuse t-shirt bags....they do make great packing material and by then you've effectively shipped some of your garbage to someone else.
mine are also used for cat poop.
