Road Humps = No match for Subie
Has anyone noticed the long travel nature of the stock suspension in the RS? It devoures those giant road hump/speedbump things!!! Now I know what "rally-inspired" means!
I was really worried I would be scrapping everything in this car because I used to drive a full-size Bronco with a 2" lift and loved to run stuff over. But so far I havent scrapped anything.

Oh yeah, I love it! There's a dip in the road near where I used to live that I can take at 50, no problem. No leaving the ground, no bottoming out, just ba-bump ba-bump, real solid feeling. No other car I've tried (everything from a Neon to a 1998 Dodge Ram to a Lincoln Town Car) is comfortable over 30. My friend tried it in his Talon once. BAD idea!

I frequently take railroad tracks at 40-50mph that most people crawl over. I got in the habit from driving my wife's Outback but the RS does almost as well. It's fun when people in SUV's try to follow and almost hit their head on the roof.

Damn...
I knew I shouldnt have got this Leda C set up.. with uprated bushes.... I might scrap it and get the RS suspension.. heehee It does amaze me the various expectations people have for things.. so people want to go low..some high... some both *greedy buggers*... some want it hard... some soft.. *erm.. lets move on*.... Everyone has their own requirements. Yes.. I am waffling.. I am bored.. 30 minutes until home time... J. |

Question for you folks :
Will lowering the car via any of the popular suspension kits remove that great wheel travel noticibly ? I want to start on suspension soon and I know that I will end up with 3/4 to 1 1/2 inch drop, but I really really like that wheel travel we have now. Jay do you have the Leda adjustable height kit with the remote oil resevoirs? (drooling) I thought that that had even more travel.

matt...
as far as lowering... be careful that u don't go too low... u will lose that ride height you have now... dont get me wrong... i can still take speed bumps... it's just that i may leave my whole exhaust system lying on the ground behind me if i go too fast!!! do your research before you lower.... i've put over $800 into my suspension and now i wanna change it... |

I would prefer NOT to lower the car, but I don't think that is an option if I want to change the suspension. I like the ride height and the travel as they are.
I know that lowering a little will aid the center of gravity, but I don't want to trade too much for a few .00'ths of a G in a corner. Don't worry, I will be looking at all the suspensions before I start changing too much. (Need those Intrax springs !!!) <--not (OH, and thanks for the advice) 8=) [This message has been edited by Matt (edited June 29, 2000).] |

Matt-
If you have the money take a good look at Leda. I think some of their kits don't lower the car, but They are stiff. Anyway that is what I am saving for. |

Skid,
Who retails the LEDA setup ? I have heard of them but don't remember seeing anyone selling them. Thanks, Matt |

SCC used the top-end leda set-up and there only complaint was that it was way too easy to find the perfect suspension for this car!

I have a question, which set up is better. LEDA, or Teins HA's?? They're both about the same price too. Thanx in advance.

i would rate them like this...
1) DMS 2) LEDA 3) TEIN's this is based on my inquiries and conversations with rally drivers who've actively used these set ups... |

DMS... prolly about $2000 - $2500
LEDA $1500 plus or minus TEINS $1500 more or less... so yeah.. they are more expensive but they are "the best" |

Oh boy, Looks like I get to save a little more than I thought. But if it's worth it, then it's worth it.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. (good words to live by.....expensive, but good) |
