Honda has been in Marysville, OH since what? 1982 I think? BMW in Greer SC since '99? They build X5's and Z3/Z4's there. Mercedes in Vance, AL. Hyundai is building in Mississippi if I recall correctly.

They got some nerve to criticize people for not being loyal to the big 3 when (sometimes blind) customer loyalty is the only reason they didn't go out of business 10 or 20 years ago.

I used to live in Savannah, and I knew who you were talking about immediately. That isn't a new tactic for them in advertising.

The ad was more than disturbing to listen to.
I think it's great they're trying to get people to blindly buy junk cars. And or the writer of that radio spot. Try blaming the labor unions or putting American auto companies in a stranglehold. Some people just don't deserve to make as much money as they are. Remember a few years ago when someone in Japan said Americans were fat, stupid and lazy? I thought that was the greatest thing ever. I'll be down in Blufton at the end o this month and might have to stop by to see OC Welch just to pull their chain a little and see if they'll take my "rice ready" car as a trade. Of course, I won't actually be trading. |

Nissan Altimas and maybe a few other cars are made in TN. You can't miss them, they sport a round blue sticker with 3 white stars on the windows (The TN state flag).

Some part content stats from cars.com:
* Ford F-150: 80% domestic content, down from 90% for '07 * Chevrolet Silverado 1500: 85% for '08, down from 90% for '07 * Toyota Camry/Solara: 68% for '08, down from 78% for '07 * Honda Accord: 60% for '08, down from 65% for '07 * Toyota Corolla: 50% for '09, down from 65% for '08 * Toyota Matrix: 65% for '09, down from 75% for '08 * Dodge Ram: 68% for '08, down from 72% for '07 * Honda Pilot: 70% for '09, same as '08 * Honda Civic: 70% for '08, up from 55% for '07 Not to mention Ford Escape nosedived from 90% in '07 to 65% in '08. Ford Edge plummeted from 95% in '07 to 68% in '08. Meanwhile, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai each have roughly 25% of their fleets in the US with at least 75% domestic part content. As we all know, the numbers are way, way, way closer between foreign and domestic than these commercials would lead you to believe. |
