Hiding mods in the engine bay. Engine Cover?!
Do any of the oem engine covers subaru make fit a 03 bugeye? I want to hide my mods from pesky cops asking me to pop my hood. Any negative effects for daily driving such as the heat? Ill be taking it off for the strip and track. Anyone running an engine cover.

I'd rather have a very clean looking engine cover.

Here is a pic of a new (for 2008) Zero/Sports product--5 piece engine cover set. I believe that they only make it for Legacy, but I can't read Japanese so there is a chance it is available for WRX and STI. They offer N/A and turbo version (as in pic below) for Legacy. Just be prepared to pay... north of $1000... They also sell the middle piece separately but I can't remember at what price.
PM japanparts. Maybe they have some info to share. |

Anyone that can do fiberglass work would be able to make something nice and simple. maybe a bodywork place could do something for you.

No there is no. And not a single item shown in this picture would cover anything you;d be modding.

I am running a Forester sports engine cover, I had to modify the moutning brackets to allow the cover to sit about 1.5" lower. And yes it does cover some parts that have been modified. It will cover a BOV, fuel injectors if the GBD are removed, turbo inlet pipe, aftermarket fuel lines and rails, zip-tied vacuum lines(indication of running higher psi), TGV deletes, in my case a 3 bar map sensor, etc. I can post pics when I get home.along with tha factory heatshield, it is great way to look stealth.

Kalifornia?
Just a question:
Has a cop ACTUALLY done this to you? Do you have a really loud exhaust? I would think that constitutes a "search." Unless I'm missing something, there are laws preventing such activity. Just tell them "no." sotc |

You have never been to Cali. They can actually use a sticker as "probable cause" to pop your hood. If said sticker ID's a part that could be in your engine bay, they can legally make you pop your hood.

Yes. Exterior mods such as, aftermarket wheels, tint, exhaust, body work and even stickers can give a trooper probable cause to believe the car is modified under the hood as well.

Ive been pulled over twice and asked to pop the hood both times . Factory turbo heatshield hides the DP nicely

I've never been asked, nor have I ever heard of anyone around here being asked to pop the hood. The beauty of the RCMP is they don't care about modded cars or drug posession. But if you have a replica handgun..... Note: I'm NOT speaking from experience other than the modded car part. My last speeding ticket was reduced because the issuing officer also had an '02 wrx. He asked me what I had done to it (only a catback at the time) and was telling me I should go catless UP/DP with a tune next . I would never want to cover up that beautiful boxer engine with an engine cover. If you have to, hide your engine mods behind the $20 you are slipping the officer (maybe a $50 if he's a real d-bag)

yeah..cali is beyond ridiculous when it comes to that stuff..then again..i guess the smog warrants it
personally i'd rather live in new england and mod my cars and see the stars come out at night, but half my family does live in cali |

i dont know about where ya live but here you can tell the cops that you will not pop the hood with out a search warrant, or probable cause. i have had a state trooper ask me to pop my hood, simply told him no that its locked from the inside. he took it in stride and said ok and that was my choice.

I've never had anyone ask to pop my hood, but I guess my car doesn't look like much to the layperson. That's super, duper lame though. Thankfully I don't live in Cali.

b) a search warrant is not needed to conduct a search of an automobile during a traffic stop as you have no expectation of privacy while on public roads. c) probable cause.....we already covered that. "probable cause" is at the sole discretion of the officer, and they have A LOT of freedom. After market wheels are enough 'probable cause' to conduct a search for other modifications on the vehicle. |

why i hate all the engine covers that OEs are running now. they should just make the engine beautiful. and not cover them up.
