Yay, another under-engineered piece of **** from Hennessey.

has anyone here ever owned a Hennessy build? Or just copped an attitude of Henness envy?
Keep in mind once you push past 20% increases you go past original engineering things break. |

As far as I can tell his bad rep comes from his viper schenanegens many years ago and compounded by things like +1million venom which should probably be closer to 300k.
I think his actual modded cars are well done currently, but public opinion is hard to mend. I think the venom is an exercise in who cares, but the craftstmanship seems quite nice from what I have seen. Somebody in txic sent his gt40 there for twin charging. He was happy with the results and it ran 220 mph in the standing mile. |

so much hate because NONE of you will ever own something that badass. One car breaks nearly a decade ago and you guys lose your ****. Bandwagon much? The flaming Hennessey gets spawns from ******* who expect their 1000whp Viper to be able to pull DD duty if necessary and NEVER break. Sorry kids, if you wanna go real, real fast, yo **** gonna break!

Hennesey's reputation goes beyond a few broken cars - every car enthusiast that frequented message boards many years ago also remembers his piss-poor forum attitude to customers and general disdain for anyone that complained about not getting their car back. Were these customers justifiably upset? Who knows, but the reaction from Hennesey was far worse.
I think its less of a choice about whether he can actually build a reliable car and more about whether he's even trustworthy and/or offers good service. Evidence points to no. |

That's why everyone hates Hennessy. Also, the cars are as good as vaporware. I think they sold one Venom GT to Steven Tyler. That's it. |

I think it looks pretty cool... Worthless amount of horsepower though. I imagine that it would be impossible to even remotely attempt to control that on throttle around a corner.

Make it AWD like the veyron then maybe the rediculous price would be justified... at least you could use the power more.

Has anyone actually put these claims to the test? I was just thinking, I haven't seen a single video of the GT doing a 1/4 mile, top speed, track or even faster than a few blips of the throttle.
One was at the goodwood festival of speed which is the only instance that comes to mind. |

Hennessy is the Bernie Madoff of the domestic tuning world. What he did is practically a pyramid scheme. You give him your car and he will sell parts off of it to fund whatever car he is already working on and your car will sit there in pieces until he gets another car in to part out to fund your build, etc etc etc.
The guy is a piece of crap and whether or not he has actually cleaned his act up, it is too bad the mullet heads will keep giving him attention over numbers. |

John Hennessey is a great guy. He has apologized for his mistakes in the past and he has corrected his mistakes. He doesn't owe a single person money anymore, he is a self admitted hot head, but this company is his baby, so don't tell me you wouldn't stick up for yourself. All of the Viper stuff happened OVER 10 YEARS AGO! His company has grown tenfold since. What happened was that he was a small mom and pop shop and the company grew larger than he could handle and he found himself in BIG trouble. He now has all the right people in the right places to make sure that doesn't happen again. As for his Venom GT, the reason it costs so much is because the cost of development is massive. Most people look and say that I can stretch a Lotus and throw in an LS9 and TT it for MUCH less...but that isn't the case. If you ACTUALLY see the car in person, the only thing that this car shares with a Lotus is the cabin, and this is because the cost to develop an interior is many millions of dollars, and John Hennessey does not car about that. He wants to go fast. The entire body is longer, wider, stronger than a Lotus. It just RESEMBLES a Lotus. The motor is the obvious beauty of this car, but the reason he used this is because this motor will take that kind of power all day long. The car is also a very low production model, so the development costs skyrocket compared to a Corvette where they are sold in the tens of thousands. Even I cannot talk siht about this car because I have not personally ridden in one. No one can talk siht because they have NO CLUE. This car is disgustingly fast, and anyone who has driven/ridden in one, was absolutely speachless. Partly because you cannot describe the savage acceleration, and partly because that sort of acceleration can only be beaten by a drag car, so you are pretty hard pressed to breath let alone speak. |

Like I said before, he made mistakes (crimes even). Perhaps a long time ago but some people will not forgive him. I Dont care at all, but their badmouthing is not with out basis.
I know there is a ton of fab and engineering in the venom, that why I said 300k. It still uses the lotus tub, hvac, windshield, and a bunch of other parts that are difficult to engineer. It is not a ground up car, though is is heavily engineered. There is not as much engineering as say a pagani. Its not up to me to price the car but I know 1 mil is ridiculous. A reasonable offset from recent history would be a saleen s7. |

He is not trying to go up against Pagani in quality, all he cares about it speed and he murders everyone with it. Pagani's also will likely cost $1.5-2 million once them come over here. So you cannot compare because the Pagani isn't as fast, but wasn't built for the same reason. The car probably costs him $600-700,000 to build. But this is business, why would you build something and not make money off of it? The car is not a ground up, but he never said it was. He takes pride in what he has done. He also admits that the car IS a kit car essentially because you have to register it as a Lotus, but who honestly cares about this? What people care about when they are shopping for a car like this is something that will scare the **** out of them and be exclusive. |

Not being convicted doesn't make you not a criminal. It also doesn't make him not a shady sack of **** with a miserable attitude.

Nope. He's still up to the same old shady **** as the old Viper days. You should see the "engineering" on his GTR packages. From dry wall screws holding MAF sensors in place to blatantly stealing other company's packages (specifically HKS), rebranding them as "Hennessey engineered", and then blatantly lying about it, even when caught with his pants down.
He's as shady as they come. The only difference between the Viper days and now is that he hasn't been caught (*yet*) selling off parts of out-of-state customer cars and billing for aftermarket upgrades in his engines that were never installed (which happened NUMEROUS times, despite the fact that he was "never charged or convicted"). He had numerous lawsuits against him, declared bankruptcy (screwing multiple, predominantly out-of-state, customers out of their money), and then restarted a new company. Everyone deserves a second chance. However, he's up to the same BS as before. Only now, he's better funded and more spread out, rather than focusing on a single marque. A fool and his money.... Don't forget the time he had an out-of-state customer looking for answers (after Hennessey gave him the runaround for a year via phone/email), arrested for trespassing at his shop. A customer who dropped nearly $100,000 and never received a running Viper... Last edited by phlegmon; 11-29-2012 at 01:27 AM. |
