250mph 700+bhp supercar due in six months

Engine guru Al Melling promised us in May that he'd be delivering a new supercar, the 250mph Hellcat, in November.

With the penultimate month almost completed, there's no sign of the car yet but, as everything takes longer than you think according to a recent academic study, that's perhaps not surprising. However, Autocar reports that the engine is being tooled now and the car should reach its first customers by mid-2007.

The £100,000 supercar seems likely to deliver at least 700bhp, but possibly more from its Melling-designed six-litre V10 whose block and heads are milled from solid billets of aluminium rather than cast.

It'll be front-engined, rear-wheel-drive using a carbon fibre monocoque body and chassis, independent wishbone suspension and a six speed trans-axle said to be inspired by the Chevy Corvette. Its weight will be some 1,200Kg and, as a result, performance is likely to be stunning, with 60mph coming up in an F1-rivalling 2.8 seconds.
