Default Short Shifter; Does it Affect Classing?

I have read the SCCA rules a few times, but am still unsure if a short shifter affects classing. All I can find related is this in ST and SP:

G. Any mechanical shift linkage may be used.

This would be just the linkage and not the lever. So if I have short shifter I can still run in D stock, right? So long as the linkage hasn't been altered or changed.

Thanks for your help!

Only the Subaru short shifter is allowed, as it's a port installed option. (Page 262 in the 2009 rules):

Quote:
SUBARU WRX OPTIONS
The following items are port-installed options on the Subaru WRX,
are listed when installed on the vehicle's window sticker, and
pending evidence to the contrary are considered legal: carbon fiber
trim, turbo boost gauge, titanium shift knob, short throw shifter, rear
diff protector, spoilers, arm rest extension.
ST, SP and above can use any short shifter.

Well, that's too bad for me I guess. At least now I can feel better about classing myself in STU. I had people trying to put my car in D-stock because my car appears stock. My only mods are the shifter and de-badging.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Running locally, I don't think one person would give a care if you ran DS. You could always ask your competitors.

I don't think anyone would care if you ran a short shifter in DS unless you start winning

It's not cheating unless you win? I do agree with the 'ask the competitors in DS' if they don't care, then it's no big deal.

But you are "doing the right thing" by going to STU.

The problem with asking your competitors is when someone else shows up at the last minute that you didn't ask.

Just run in STU.. get yourself some more camber and get some swaybars eventually.

That's the plan, for now. I've decided that I'll continue to mod my car to my taste and if it bumps me into a different class; so be it. I don't intend to run at anything above local events anyway.
