Default Quick APS SR56 turbo question!

Is the APS SR56 Turbo External wastegated or Internal wastegated?
What do you guys think about the setup that I am thinking about doing to my 06 STI (APS SR56 Turbo, APS DR525 FMIC, PE 850cc injectors, 255 Walbro Fuel Pump, and a protune)?

Your paying more for the name APS then you are the performance if that is your turbo and IC of choice, so be it. But I would much rather get a modifed 20G(55lb wheel or bigger) from Deadbolt or Forced Performance then pay that kinda money for a APS internal gated turbo.

its a forge internal wastegate acutator. it helps hold boost better in the upper RPMS and to prevent boost creep. the aps sr56 is also dual ball bearing.

There are better turbos for less money. Same goes for the IC. APS is good stuff but you could get parts just as good, for less money that could give you more power even. You are paying for the name. You may think about staying w/ deadbolt, FP, or a 20g of sorts. Perrin also makes good stuff for less money.

What do you want to do with the car, what are your goals?? You may want to look into a rotated kit, it'll cost about the same and it'll come with an external wastegate, etc.. Plus it's a better setup.

If you don't end up liking the turbo prepare to sell it for hundreds less than you bought it, because not many people want the turbo.

You can get 350whp without a turbo. I just put down 350hp with 347tq. All I have for mods is APS tbe, fmic, cai and turbo inlet with a utec.

The SR 56 is a decant turbo but from the protuner standpoint, I must agree that the 20G would have definatally been a better choice. APS is a good name but not the best by far. I made 350-360whp in my old STi with a VF22 and a turboxs FMIC. You will make just a little more with that turbo due to airflow restrictions within the engine. If you want to beat that corvette, internals are the only way thats gonna happen!

Hopefully it works well for you. Heres a pic of the Greddy 18G, FP Green and SR55. Look at the size of the compressor wheel on the SR55!

You know...after all this talk about me wanting to beat a 480rwhp corvette and running awesome 1/4mile times....all i really want is reliability of the vehicle but also have my fun at times!!!! from what i have heard is that the fp green turbo is not a very reliable turbo! and another great choice would have been the PE1820 or a 20g turbo...

I have ran an fp green in my 91 eagle talon, going on 6 years now
and probably around 70,000 miles, 20psi.
The only problems I have had with it, are 2 clutches, 1 headgasket, and an axle

FP turbos are very reliable, hence their success in the aftermarket world. The Green in particular has a very strong thrust bearing system that is quite reliable. Unlike BB turbos which do tend to fail over time.
