Maybe they all were in Chicago presenting the new 2010 models.

Cool, thanks for the help, but I was wondering when it was going to be available through actual Subaru dealers again. Employee discount plus free shipping to AK = win.

A couple questions regarding the recently named BRZ.

First, referring to this article http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...308019989/1117 Mr Tachimori makes a reference to the coupe:

Quote:
The sports car will be rear-drive with a Subaru drivetrain and will be positioned between the Impreza and Legacy, Tachimori said. The base 2011 Impreza is priced at $18,220, including freight, and the Legacy starts at $20,220.
People are jumping to the logical-seeming conclusion that this means a starting price for the BRZ at around $19k, which is fantastic. But is there any PR-speak that may have been overlooked? For example the Scion twin will likely have a single spec and be reasonably optioned. So when Mr Tachimori says it will between the Impreza and Legacy, could we be talking that maybe it isn't coming as stripped as a base Impreza (steel wheels, etc...) so that it will be priced between an Impreza and Legacy that are comparably equipped to the base BRZ? (Although personally, I think a stripped model with steelies would appeal to a certain type of prospective buyer of this car.)

Secondly, as I'm sure you've seen, the BRZ name doesn't seem to be going over well. Personally I hate it. Is this the actual name of the car or just of this 'prologue' tech display concept? Is there room for a future change before it is finally released?

I got the impression that the BRZ name was for the concept, not the production model. Time will tell.

SOA Blog:

Why do several online automotive articles refer to the "Z" in BRZ as "Zeta model"?

Not a question, but... SOA Blog: Genuine thanks for responding to feedback and putting a manual height adjustment on 2012 Forester's passenger seat. Anywhere else that feature shows up is appreciated, but it was most needed on Forester.

Hi all- sorry it's been so long - things have been very busy ever and not much new information to share. Yes, BRZ is the real name of the production car - as with all new names, it will take some people time to get used to it but we are sure it will grown on you. Hope you all are enjoying the build-up to reveal in Tokyo.

SOA Blog,

Will the remote starters for the new 2012 Impreza be the same/similar to that currently used in the 2008-2011 Impreza/Forester or will it be like the one used for the 2010-Current Legacy/Out Back? I included one as one of the many accessories for the CLL(BL2) that I preordered on 10/04/2011. No one has any info available that I can find - maybe just too early.

I may be wrong, but I could have sworn I saw a photo of the key FOB that looks exactly like the legacies system.

Do you remember where you might have seen it. I know the keys now look much like the Legacy/Out Back ones; however, the new Impreza keys are no longer Laser cut.

SOABlog - Can Subaru send a 2012 Impreza review car to MPGomatic for testing. I love his videos and reviews. He shows not only the possible performance, but he also drives it 500 miles to try to see what's the best possible fuel economy he can get out of it. http://www.mpgomatic.com/

I would love to see if he can break 40 mpg on the highway with it. If he pulls it off, it might be a possible advertising selling point for the car as well if they break the 40 mpg barrier in actually driving.

Default Things to fix in the new WRX

Subaru established their reputation by providing solid reliable cars that their relatively few customers swore by and then expanded to their enthusiast base with the high performance WRX and STI, driving still more sales in the regular market. This would not have been possible without the rally success of the RS. The later GD and GG “New Age” Imprezas incorporated many of the lessons learned from the GC cars and had continued rally success. I had an ‘02 WRX Wagon until this year and used it extensively on dirt/gravel roads where it performed flawlessly.

I looked at the current WRX in ‘08 but was not too impressed, but this year I bought an ‘11 Wide Body 5-door as a replacement, after driving one and based on reports that the car was improved.

Here is what is better: the 2.5L engine is more powerful and much more flexible, providing good torque from 2000 rpm as opposed to the 2.0L in the old car which really needed 3000 rpm for anything much to happen. And that’s it.

Here is what is worse from my admittedly biased rally point of view at least:
The ride height is too low - I had to fit King springs.
The 17" wheels with summer tires are good for pavement but not so much on the dirt. I use the old 16" rims.
The rear suspension travel is much too limited - it must be able to drive over a speed bump without bottoming out.
The 3 mounting points for a skid plate require spacers; the front two are weak. The old car had 5 good mounting points.
No OEM rear diff protection is available.
No space for a full size spare.
No gap in the rear spoiler, so the rear window gets obscured by dust or water.
The foglights are worthless.
Radio reception is poor.
The trunk space is smaller.
Visibility around the “A” pillar makes precisely placing the car more difficult.
The brakes seem worse.
My wife complains that the passenger seat is too low - probably OK for a co-driver.

It seems to me that Subaru lost their way with the GE/GH models and as you refine the replacement for the WRX I hope you talk to some of the old rally guys and get back to your roots. A good rally car will always make a good road car, but not necessarily the other way round.

According to the installation and testing instructions, it appears be the same as that currently used within the Legacy and Outback.

SOA Blog,

Whoever is designing the BRZ-STI concept...pay him more, and start buidling his designs! This should be the new corporate face of Subaru cars.

We are tired of awesome concepts (Impreza for example) turning into disasters (2012 Impreza).

SOA Blog- its been asked before but I never saw an answer... I want headlight washers.. ill pay .. real money .. really... everytime it starts snowing here I realize how much we need them... I can't see crap after 5 min on dirty/wet snowy roads...I know its a bumper beam US regulations safety thing that you would have to redesign but man... most other cars over $25k have em as an option at least.... love my car otherwise..
thanks,

SOA:

When the BRZ is released, can you please let us know whether the "leaks" were actually leaks or marketing? Interested in knowing - great job if it is, and even if it isn't, you've generated a very rabid fanbase regardless

SOA Blog: Why can't Impreza and WRX/STI keys come with switchblade key fobs (like Chevy Cruze, VW, Audi) or keys integrated into the remote (Legacy, most Fords, Hondas)? Why we are stuck in the 1990s with separate keys and remote fobs?

The 2012 Impreza now has a one piece key similar to the Legacy and Outback.
